For some reason my first post never passed to the forum. Just thought
I would thank everyone for helping me out. Here is a msg from the
Apple Discusion that fixed my midi woes.
I love LOGIC!! :)

OK... this is gonna take some 'splainin' ;-)
I'm going to suggest that you totally re-do the MIDI portion of your
Environment. It's going to be easy (see the eeeezeee instructions below).
First... the Physical Input object the "to Recording and Thru"
object
should, in most cases, be connected only as follows with a single cable:
PHYSICAL INPUT (sum) -------->SEQUENCER INPUT ("to Recording and
Thru")
The Physical Input and the Sequencer Input have got to be the most
confounding part of Logic's Environment and presents a lot of
confusion. I'll try to explain this...
"Physical Input" really translates as "the place where MIDI
data
coming from your MIDI gear that's physically plugged into your MIDI
interface shows up inside Logic".
You may be thinking, "Who cares to see where MIDI data coming into
Logic comes from? Obviously MIDI data is coming from the interface, or
[ahem] the "physical input"! Isn't it the job of CoreMIDI and/or
the
driver software for the MIDI interface to make the process of MIDI
coming into Logic transparent?"
To answer that question, I'd say this: if you didn't know that the
Physical Input object existed, you'd be none the wiser and the process
WOULD be transparent. But ever since the earliest versions, Logic has
always showed the internal path of MIDI to it's "brain", and that
consists of the Physical Input (where MIDI comes into Logic's domain)
and the Sequencer Input (where the MIDI data goes after it comes in to
Logic's domain). From the Sequencer Input, MIDI data is routed to
whatever instrument(s) you've selected (and record-enabled) in the
Arrange window. This is what the "Recording and Thru" refers to!
The "Thru Instrument" can be an external MIDI device or an Audio
Instrument.
Traditionally, all external MIDI devices have been grouped in one of
the Environments layers, namely, the MIDI Instrument layer. Here's how
you can eeeeeeeasily do that from your current setup:
- Select only the MIDI devices you currently have in your Clicks and
Ports. No monitors, just MIDI instruments
- Cut them (CMD-X)
- Select the MIDI instrument layer, and paste them there
- While still in this layer, select all (CMD-A) and clear the cables
(Edit/ clear cables only)
- Go back to the Clicks and Ports layer and connect:
Physical Input (sum)--->Sequencer input
- Get rid of everything else in the Clicks and Ports page except the Click
Now, go to any track in the arrange page. Click and hold on the
instrument name and select from the MIDI Instruments layer. This will
be how you select MIDI destinations to respond to the MIDI input from
your controllers.
Note that there is no longer any cabling between the Physical Input
and your MIDI instruments. This is normal. Actually, there is
"virtual" cabling between the MIDI input to your system (your
controllers) and whatever device(s) is selected on a record-enabled
MIDI track (or Audio Instrument) in the Arrange window.
If you want to play two MIDI devices simultaneously, call up those
instruments on two different tracks. Click the red (R) button on both.
Now your MIDI input is being "thru'd" to both instruments. This
will
work for more than two instruments, BTW.
Sorry this is so long, but I hope it helps you simplify your setup.
