Which is the better format Firewire or PCI?

For what? Over here I'm using PCI for audio interface and Firewire
for drives with sample library files and to record to. This is
working very good, that's all I know. Do a search at the archives, I
remember someone posted about some issue with running both audio
interface and drives over the same Firewire port.

Sorry. For Audio interface. I'm looking at the 002r and the MOTU2408

It's generally accepted that it is easier to build a PCi based system
that offers the lowest latency AND low or zero CPU load than it is
firewire. It's not impossible to build a Firewire system that
performs well as devices like RME Fireface and MOTU 828/ Traveller
prove but out of the two boxes you mention it is not just a matter of
FW v PCI.
Since this the Logic list I assume you're looking at running Logic as
your main SW. Based on this I would not touch any Digidesgin hardware
short of a HD rig. Their Core Audio drivers are notoriously bad. OTOH
MOTU has an excellent reputation with Core Audio as does RME. Both do
various FW & PCI models which I have used at different times that I
think perform well but I think you will find that either Maker's PCI
models will still offer lower useable latency and a smaller CPU
footprint.

I know I'm not answering your question but I have a motu 2408 mkIII
as well as a firewire 800 hard drive. My system has worked flawlessly
with no detectable latency since I started using it in May. ~Rufuss

Having a Firewire audio myself (Yamaha 01X) I'd say a wor d for it.
Also because as PCI is changing to PCI-Express the firewire is more
compatible
at this moment. Choose carefully and each will give you good results :-)

With OS 109.4.x go into your networking prefs, and turn off firewire
networking, or you might have issues.
I did with my i88X, which is working perfect now...

yes, it is turned off..though the OS you're using is pretty far in
the future ;-)
