Subject: [LUG] Logic 7.11 on OSX Tiger crashing... Pls help, search didn't.
Message #204337
Hi all, Just a small try if anyone has stumbled to this same problem.. I recently upgraded to Tiger and have installed all updates, including Pro Application support. Even so, usually after working for like 2-3 hours, Logic just gets stuck and the magic rainbow ball appears. I need to restart whole G5 before it starts to work again. So what might be wrong? Or is it just the way it is? :[ -thc

This sounds like something I was running into a few weeks ago when I purchased a refurb G5 powermac single processor 1.8. Thanks, Darlene [Logic Express 7.1.1, Tascam FW-1884 interface, brand new Power Mac G5, 2 GHz DP, OS 10.4.2 tiger, 1.5 gig ram, 160 gig hd]

What did you find out > back then? Or did you just dump that particular Powermac :D > > thc Oh, I definitely feel for you! Yeah, thankfully I had spent that first week just "trying" to put the computer through its paces. I was new to Mac, computer recording, and Logic and pushing against an incredibly tight deadline. So in a week's time I had really given it a workout and spent a LOT of time with it. After hearing about how reliable and stable Macs are for so many years, it amazed me that this stupid computer kept freezing time after time. LOTS of problems. I felt like I was beating my head against a brick wall. So after numerous calls to tech support (I had AppleCare programmed in my speed dial by the end of the 2nd day), finally on the 8th day I talked to a supervisor in tech support. He told me that this was a "known issue" with this particular configuration, and thankfully I was within the time limit of being able to return it. So I sent it back to Apple and drove to a "local" Apple store (about 2 hours away) and picked me up a NEW (not refurb!!) Mac--dual 2 gig Powermac g5. Search the LUG archives if you like, starting around the end of Sept. you can follow the "continuing saga of Darlene's refurb from hell!" as I've come to call it. A couple of keyword searches you might wanna try to see some of the suggestions I got from the list are sabatoged bigger problem faulty hardware But since getting the 2 gig dual, it's been smooth as silk. And by following the messages about the tiger 10.4.3 update this past week, I've learned to manually download software updates....and not to be in a hurry about it! Oh, here's an article that someone on the list sent me after I posted the fact that Apple admitted that there was a known issue with this machine...hope this helps! http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum02212 GOOD LUCK!!!!! Darlene
