I recently began experimenting with the PC version of logic when one of
my mac friends let me play on his system. While setting up 5.5.0 on PC,
I checked the PC AV:EASI box and it asked me to restart logic in order
to change the settings. After I restarted my computer, Logic refused to
work. Every time I start the program I get an error when it trys to
load the PC AV:EASI. I've tried uninstalling and clearing the registry
values it leaves behind, then reinstalling with no avail. Can anyone
help me get past this problem.
thanks ahead of time,
AKshun
Hey all:
Please let us know if others are experiencing
this. Wee updated to 10.4.3 today, on an older 2X2 G5.
After 6 months of no problems, the "overactive fans"
have come back to haunt :-(

And for once, after the 2 week bad ram issue, I'm gonna let all the
bugs get found and fixed BEFORE I install it...
Sorry to hear this.
Have to tried to reset the cpu? I'm gonna let you find out the info
needed for this one, just in case your G5 blows up. I have used it to
resolve a couple of things (mainly after adding 3d party audio
cards), and suspect this might be resolved, though I can't say for sure.

George:
I will let you and the rest know. I will check the Apple board
tomorrow to see what shows up there. It is not as bad as it once was,
but the fans still rev up way too often (compared to pre 10.4.3
update install)

Apple has definitely changed something in their "fan-policy"
I'm using Applejack quite often to fix my drive.

Before 10.4.3 my G5 fans came up occasionally, task-dependent.
Now I got "take-off" sound through the whole process...

i posted this last night . .this morning nothing has
changed . .the fans are whirring so loud and the g5
dual 2.5 still won't boot up. gets stuck on the
desktop
following from yesterday's post . . .
just installed it on the G4 no problem!!
however our G5 will NOT REBOOT after installation
we have tried taking all periferals off and tried
restarting at least ten times
gone back to the basic bare bones keyboard and apple
mouse and still will not get further than the desktop
where it gets horribly stuck
we had two kernal panics and the dreaded 747 getting
ready for take off sound
everything was "as well as can be expected " until the
update . . working great all day until the update
any help greatfully received
thanks

Grrrrrr! I have the hyperactive fans for the first time - only on occasion
but it rarely happened
prior to the 10.4.3 update. G5 2x2.
Doug
from macfixit.com:
Increased fan activity A surprisingly high number of users are
reporting dramatically increased fan activity after installing Mac OS
X 10.4.3. In some cases, these increases in fan speed and audible
volume are only temporary, and will diminish during subsequent
operation.
MacFixIt reader Wayne Barber writes:
"Installed Mac OS X 10.4.3 tonight through Software Update. Fans went
nuts following the update (Powermac G5 Dual 1.8Ghz with 2Mb memory).
At first, I thought the fan activity was caused by Spotlight indexing
the computer, which includes the boot drive and two external firewire
drives. But no, the increased fan activity continued. Very high-speed
fans when opening Firefox, surfing to certain web pages (no
discernible pattern or reason). When I say "very high speed fans,"
I'm talking jet-engine stuff, howlingly fast."
Mark Oliver adds:
"With the 10.4.3 update it is back to the 10.3 days when my legacy G5
Tower dual 2GHz fan would rev up for a few seconds for no apparent
reason. Did the usual steps to see if I could fix it with no luck."
Another reader reports the same issue with an iMac G5:
"Updated G5 iMac and now the fan runs at high speed constantly, great
for cooling the processor, now approximately 31deg celsius. But
extremely noisy. Did all the usual repair permissions before and
after, no luck there."
Resetting the SMU In some cases, resetting your Mac's SMU --
system management unit (per Knowledge Base article #301733 for the
iMac G5 or Knowledge Base article #300341 for the Power Mac G5) --
can return fans to normal operation.
MacFixIt reader Ian Williams writes:
"I have just applied the 10.4.3 combo update on my iMac G5.
Repaired permissions before and after. The iMac is now starting
normally but the fans are spinning very noisily and won't settle
down. [...] Follow-up on my last report of fan noise and keychain
problems after updating to 10.4.3. Resetting the SMU appears to have
resolved both problems."
Failing an SMU reset, try starting up in Open Firmware mode (by
restarting your Mac then immediately holding down the Command,
Option, O and F keys simultaneously) then entering the following
commands, pressing return after each:
* reset-nvram
* set-defaults
* reset-all
I have had this problem also. Has anyone ever found a solution/cure please?
I desparately need to get Logic working again!

There are two secondary programs in the Logic folder, one scans all of the
DirectX plugins,
it's mandatory this be run before booting Logic. There's also an EASI setup
program, try
running that and changing the settings.

I think that what may be happening is that the 'system' is not
releasing the PC AV drivers for Logic to use them.
Make sure that in Window's Sounds and Audio Devices Properties,
Sound's Tab that the sounds scheme is NONE.
Logic for Windows does not like to 'share' audio devices with other
programs at the same time.
First step is to ensure that you have the latest drivers for your
sound card from the manufacturers ... preferably ASIO drivers or WDM
drivers.
Then you need to run the EASI MME driver applet and plug in enabler.
Then try opening Logic.
If it still does not start up properly ... uninstall, reboot and
reinstall the Driver for the audio card.
