Subject: [LAW] moving LAPWin to new XP machine from 98SE
Message #187864
I'm not a regular on this group, but I'd be grateful for any help, if you know the answer to this question. I can't figure out how to get in touch with eMagicUSA by phone, and apparently they don't support us Windowites any more anyway, is that right? I've looked in the eMagic InfoWeb but can't find an answer to my question, and I have not been able to find it in my Logic documentation either (and I stupidly lost or misplaced some of my documentation anyway). I also had no luck trying to search this Yahoo group. SO I did try looking before asking! Anyway, I purchased and own Logic Audio Platinum for Windows, v5.5.1. I run it on a Win98SE system but want to move it to a new WinXP system. I first bought LAPWin in v4, with the dongle. Then I bought the V4->5 upgrade, and sent the dongle to Germany, so that I could get the XSKey. Then, when I had installed v5, I downloaded and installed the v5.5.1 upgrade. My question is this: If I want to move LAPW to my new comp, do I have to reproduce this *whole* process? That is, do I have to (1) install v4, (2) then install the v4->5 upgrade, (3) then install the 5.5.1 update? If so, this will be impossible for me, as I of course no longer have the dongle that came with v4. OR, will I able to use the XSKey and the v4->5 upgrade disk to install v5 directly on my new computer? If so, I can easily redownload and reinstall the 5.51 update myself. I guess the reason I don't already know the answer is that I don't know whether the version of LAPW5 that came on the official update disk somehow "needed" to see a previous v4 install, or whether it was a full v5 that didn't need an existing v4 install but only needed an XSKey to be unlocked. Second question: does LAPW 5.5.1 run well under XP? Thank you in advance for any help, and I bow in your general direction. Richard Lindsey

From a standing start to fully booted Logic in under 3 seconds. It's blindingly fast, most operations are instantaneous. Have to appreciate the Emagic team for releasing the last few updates, even after being purchased by Apple. Howard

I think the 5.5.1 update on Emagics site might work as a full install - but don't quote me on this. I have a 5.0 installation CD - if anything else fails I could try to extract the installer or make an image for you. Regarding Logic/XP = it's the most stable sequencer I have ever been using. This includes both competitors products (such as Cubase SX, which is performing so bad it's hard to believe...) and any OSX version I had the questionable fun of having to deal with. - Sascha

If anything you should simply install version 5...and then upgrade to 5.5.1..that's what I did on my new XP machine and there were no previous versions on that machine. blayz
