SoundDiver makes it easy. Doing it by hand typing, one patch at a time is
another way. No easy way within Logic that I know of.

Greetings Anthony
Which modules do you have? Sounddiver does cover this function for
a lot of gear, some require a little time entering names.
It can all depend on how your modules respond to bank select & the
types of patch names eg GM synth vs Analog synth.
I have 9 hardware synths with patch names loaded for all.
A6 Andromeda, Triton Rack, Super Jupiter, MicroKorg, Kawai k5000s,
Nord Micromodular, Yamaha An200 & Dx200, Waldorf MicroQ.
Some were easy, some were a bit of labour.
Look forward to your list. Am using 5.5 on PC by the way.

Take a look at this site: http://www.swiftkick.com/lugec.html
There are a lot of Environments for many different synths/sound modules that
you can download.

Hey Kamm! Thanks for the reply. I came across that site the other
night and was wondering what enviorment toolkit did. Can I use that
to import?
Thanks again,

Thanks for the reply Richard. I was hoping it would be as easy as
Digital Performer with Free Midi but I guess not.
Here is my list:

JV1080 w/4 cards House,Techno,Vintage and 60's&70's
Orbit 3
Proteus 2000

Downloading an Environment is not going to help at all importing patch
names. You cant 'import' patch names into Logic. If youre running OS X
you have 2 choices.
1. Double-click each synths Instrument Object in the Environment, you
can then type them all in by hand. or,
2. If you have Sound Diver installed, just open up your synth in SD,
select each bank and copy all of the names, then paste them in the
Environment object inside Logic.
If I missed another method let me know, but so far this is the only way
to get your patch names into Logic.
If youre still stuck in OS 9 and have Sound Diver, well you can still
use the Autolink feature and keep SD open alongside Logic and it will do
it all for you.

Hi Anthony,

I was actually referring to the environments that many users have submitted.
Where they have already setup the environment - patches; effects controls;
etc.. I downloaded one for the Yamaha MU80 that seems rather complete.
I'm not familiar with toolkit. Maybe it will help you create your own
environments for each synth. What I've done is create a multi instrument and
then for each channel you can call up an editor (don't remember the name off
hand, but I think it is from the View menu) and from there you select a bank
(up to 15 banks), once you've selected a bank you can paste your patch names
into that bank if you have copied them to the clipboard from a text editor.
Just include one patch name on a line with up to 128 lines. Insert blank
lines for any patch that does not contain an actual voice. You may have to
edit the controller messages that are sent out for each bank. There is a
different editor for that. It isn't easy, but it isn't exactly hard either.
If I think about it while I'm using Logic, I'll find out the name of the
editor and give more details in a future posting.
Have fun!

Yes, it can be done without SoundDiver. Although it is probably a lot more
work. Please see my posting to Anthony.

Hi
I read a few of the responses to your question. All good things to
explore. You can usually find multi instruments that already have all
the patches loaded into them. Another thing you can do is to type all
the patch names into a word processor in a list form starting with the
number 0. When you have all the patches in this form, copy to the
clipboard. Then go to the environment in Logic. Create your new Multi
instrument, doubleclick on the top of the icon, the patch list window
opens. Look on the right side where it says options. Choose paste from
the drop menu. Good to go!

Stephens explanation was better than mine. The only thing to add is that if
you have a synth that has more than 15 banks worth of patches, you will need
to have several multi instruments and you'll almost certainly have to use
the "Define Custom Bank Messages" editor to make them address your
synth's
banks correctly. That editor is found under the View menu.

It appears that Logic 7 has addressed this issue (at last!) -- 63
custom bank messages are alleged to be possible.

Bill,
This is a very delayed reply, but where did you see that? I thought it was
only 15. I'll be very happy if it is 63.
