Subject: Recording fader movements
Message #178670
Hello. I have a problem recording midi data from my evolution faderbox. I've cobbled an environment together and I can assign my faderbox to any midi controllable parameter of a softsynth. Whilst I can control the sound of a patch with the faderbox, if I press record as I modulate, Logic doesn't record these movements to the track. I have tried setting the track to "latch" and "write". When I try and edit a patch on my hardware synth using sounddiver, I can move parameters and on-screen I will see these changes. The sound coming from the synth doesn't change though. I can see that midi is not going into the synth when I twist knobs on the faderbox. When I play my midi keyboard the synth does respond. Putting the synth to one side for a minute, how can I record parameter changes into logic that I perform with the faderbox? Usually, people say "just hit record and twiddle". Because that doesn't work, I reckon there's something missing in my environment. My theory is that midi data is coming in to the environment but something is missing in terms of recording it to a track. le help!!!

Your're talking about two different things here: recording midi and recording automation. To record midi you select a midi track and send midi into the midi interface. To record automation you don't even have to put that track into recording mode; simply set that track's automation to "latch" and either (1) send the midi you have mapped to Automation Quick Access or (2) send the midi you have mapped to some parameter by the Controller Assignment function. I don't know much about Sound Diver so I leave that out ;-) Greetings from Sweden Per Boysen --- http://www.looproom.com (international) http://www.boysen.se (Swedish site) http://www.cdbaby.com/perboysen

Per to the rescue again! Swede-Aid...... I see what you mean about recording midi and automation being different. I can play notes onto a track and record that no problem. I'm on Logic 5 (PC) so option 1 that you give isn't available :-( With regards to option 2: > 2) send the midi you have mapped to some > parameter by the Controller Assignment function. Could you expand on this? How do I "map midi"? Is the Controller Assignment function available in LAP5? Sorry, I'm at work at the moment so can't check.... but if so, how do I "map midi"?? Thanks man!

I'm sorry, I must have missed the info that you are on L5. The Controller Assignment came with version 7. If you plan to stay on L5/Win you it may make sense to invest in Fadermapper. Thanks for your help, I'll try fadermapper tonight....!

Howdy again Jumping from Logic User.net for more interaction. Check in the files section for all the CC info on Logic & other VST instruments. This will give you some quick reference for fader assignments. Enjoy burning the midnight oil. Regards Richard
