Subject: haunted song file
Message #178649
Hi all, I posted this on the EXS users group so to those of you on both groups....sorry for the duplication. I'm working on an orchestral piece. 28 exs instances so far. I'm in about 3 minutes into the piece and my song file has become haunted. When I open it I get a message that tells me the song is damaged. It offers me 2 options repair and encapsulate. Either of these choices produces a dialog that says minor problem in data (3)..... repair or exit. Hit repair and the song opens.... things seem fine.... but they are not. Note lengths in several sequences are extended to be maybe a hundred measures in length....fix them...they come right back....or I can get another dialog that tells me there is another minor problem in data (3).....repair or cancel. DON'T HIT CANCEL.....the sequence goes away. It becomes an empty sequence called trash. Hit repair and logic thinks for a minute and does seemingly nothing. One of my EXS instances keeps loosing it's samples. There have been other problems I copied a sequence from one track to another and was told that I had done some kind of circular something or other and to contact Emagic and tell them how. Notes in a sequence can just show up at a different pitch Anyway....the song is full of goblins. I need this song.... Is there someway to salvage this thing? All help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance. julie

I'm putting together a Logic-based project studio for a client, and for a variety of reasons would prefer to buy a pre-configured G5 DAW. There are of course many PC DAW manufacturers, but I can't find any that build Mac DAWs. There must be some out there! Does anybody have any recommendations? Thanks, Sean McCoy Oregon Sound Recording

In designing a Logic-based project studio for a client, I'm faced with the prospect of setting up Logic at the center of a potentially complicated environment. This client uses multiple MIDI keyboards and modules, and would like to be able to incorporate those into live studio recordings with full bands. Arming and recording onto multiple audio tracks is not an issue, but arming and recording multiple MIDI tracks is. What if I'd like him to be able to record all his MIDI data on discrete tracks simultaneously? Is this even possible? Can any software comfortably handle this situation? I'm used to either overdubbing to clicks and/or sequences, or using only one MIDI device along with the live players, so I'm curious as to what some of you high-end users do when players with mondo MIDI setups record with acoustic musicians. It is, but for 16 channels/tracks only, and it requires a slightly complicated dance of audio/midi record-enable order and ensuring a record-enabled midi track stays selected in L7. Separate input ports are merged to 16 channels. If you'll be doing a lot of this, especially if you're wanting to switch among all 16 channels on multiple input ports and keep those ports separated, Logic will drive you nuts. > Can any software comfortably handle this situation? Digital Performer, ProTools. Both feature specific midi port/channel record sources for midi tracks, and can lock midi tracks in record regardless of subsequent track selection. MUCH better at this sort of thing. Logic can record multiple midi tracks and audio tracks at the same time. It can also take midi tracks that were recorded into one track, and using the "Split/Demix by midi channel" function, it can automatically seperate the channels into into seperate tracks. This is tremendously usefult for quickly recording tracks from a keyboard workstation or drummachine/groovebox object. Michael

Yes, a royal pain. If all the MIDI signals are running through Logic, the MIDI through is lost when any audio track is selected---very frustrating for the player. We need a way to lock-select a specific MIDI track while manipulating audio tracks, etc. (there isn't a way, is there?) >Separate input ports are merged to 16 channels. So my plan for his sessions will be to track all his synth audio live from his self-contained MIDI rig, and take a MIDI feed from the end of his chain to a single Logic track to record essentially as a backup in case we need to clean up a part or try different sounds later. Relying on Logic to be the brain for tracking and playback in this scenario is impractical. Of course, once he's introduced to the power of audio instruments, I'll have to figure out how to incorporate those as well since he'll always want to keep his hardware. Another bridge to cross.... Thanks John and everyone for your input on this.
