There's quite a few good reasons to record the MIDI instrument to audio
before the final mix. All of the audio plugins (including third party)
become available. That synth part might really come alive with a bit of
compression and eq. There are some great tools and efx that can only be
done with audio tracks. Also, I think the final mix benefits from mixing
purely from audio tracks, I couldn't prove it but it feels like everything
sits more comfortably in the mix. Have you ever tried it?

Hi Howard,
That never occurred to me. I'll have to give that a try sometime. Although,
on my system, it is a pain to mix down from a midi track to an audio track.
I have to hook up a patch cord and make sure I don't setup a feedback loop
in the process. It might be worth it for one or two important instruments.
Like you say, to give it that extra punch.
Thanks,
Kamm
