If you look at the upper right hand of the arrange list you will see a box
that allows you to control how"overlapping regions" behave with
each other . if
I understand your concern correctly I think this is what you're looking for.

think it's new in L7 and i noticed it by chance.

I see what you're talking about, but I tried all three selections (Overlap,
no overlap, x-fade) and I couldn't see that it made any difference no matter
which I chose. I'll have to dive into the manual to see what it is supposed
to do and how to use it.

No need to do this, it´s broken in L7. :-(((
