Ok, I was getting numerous annoying scroll bar crashes....too many to
actually get work
done. I was hating it. So I turned off the Quartz Extreme and replaced my L1
in the
Master Bus with AD Limiter. The mixes sound better and NO MORE CRASHES....It
hasn't
crashed once. Maybe it has something to do with the Master Bus? Don't know
if the
Quartz Extreme was the problem, or the Waves in the Master Bus, so I don't
really care
why, I am stable again...

Hi,
Can you tell how to turn off the Quartz Extreme? Is it in the Console within
Utilities?
thanks.

Hi,
You have to go into terminal.. (Utilities/Terminal)
Here is the info for how to disable/re-enable Quartz Extreme using
Terminal:
enter this command into terminal to disable quartz extreme:
sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.windowserver
GLCompositor -dict tileHeight -int 0 tileWidth -int 0
(you must now reboot for changes to take effect.. your computer will
stay in this state even through many reboots until you use the command
below to re-enable Quartz Extreme)
If you're not quite sure if you've successfully disabled Quartz,
there's a free utility app that you can download and run which will
give you the state of Quartz extreme... here's the URL:
http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/15911
To re-enable quartz extreme type this command into terminal:
sudo defaults delete /Library/Preferences/com.apple.windowserver
GLCompositor

I can cause the crash with 100% certainty by putting L1 on the Master Bus.
Several other
posts on this subject claim that Quartz Extreme has nothing to do with this
problem, so
you might want to eliminate the Waves stuff before doing anything drastic.

I don't think I every suggested to anyone that this was a solution for
all crash problems. I responded initially and specifically to someone
else with a dual 2.0 G5 like mine. These machines have been having a
great deal of trouble with freezing and one of the solutions for the
problem is to disable Quartz Extreme...it worked perfectly here. I
have never had any scroll bar related crashes, but then I didn't even
load L7 until well after I'd disabled Quartz Extreme. Actually, this
solution is not "drastic" It's pretty easy to do and pretty easy
to
undo.
