Hi,
I just received a bunch of stereo tracks which are actually mono (left
and right audio data is the same). In Pro-Tools I used to put a stereo
file on two mono tracks and I could easily convert a stereo file to a
mono file. Is there an easy way to do this inside Logic ? I poked
around the Audio Windows and Sample Editor but found nothing really
helpful.
Cheers,
Camille

A quick trick is to make a tiny mono file of silence and put it on
an adjacent track. Use the glue tool to combine with the stereo
file, and you get a dialog asking if you want to mix down stereo or
mono. Select mono and a new mono file is created in place. I keep a
little snippet of silence for this purpose.

I need to do something nearly opposite. Is there a way
to convert two mono audio files (sat a stereo guitar
track that imports as 2 mono files) to a stereo track
in Logic 7.
Thanks, JP

I think this is in the FAQs, if not has been answered recently.
However, Logic only converts to split files if you have "force convert
interleaved to split stereo" ticked in the audio general prefernces.

Thanks for the preferences tip. However, I did
originally look in the FAQs and could find nothing
relevant. Do you know under what heading it might be?
Or if not could someone tell me how this can be done?
Thanks, JP

I can't remember the best/quickest way, but bouncing to interleaved
would do the trick. If you have loads I would just reimport them with
prefs reset.

Many thanks for that tip - very useful!! (I just used it - it works
like a charm.....)

This is a good tip, one caveat:
Make sure that the stereo file an mono file are on a stereo track. If
it's on a mono track it'll end up twice as loud.
