I have a problem getting cc data to my audio instrument plugins. For
example, I can
select an instance of e.g the ES-E. I play notes on my midi controller and
it plays, but
when I twiddle knobs, even though I have them assigned to the right cc
numbers to
control the parameters of the plug in, nothing happens (the midi monitor
does show
the right info as coming in, though, so I'm thinking that I need to do
something extra
to route it to the plugin). Any ideas? I'm vexed.

Which version of Logic are you using?
I am on 5.5 for PC. In the past i had found that for the CC
controls to work you had to change the behaviour of Logic Audio
instruments in the Recording preferences from Logic 5 behaviour
(Full range of CC commands) to Logic 4.8 behaviour (From CC64 up).
Most of the Logic intstruments operate in the CC range 65+.
What type of controller do you have?
I have an Edirol Pcr50 Controller keyboard. I have built about 30
maps to control various hardware, all 5.5 Logic instruments & many
VSTi synths. They are all available in Yahoo Groups "Edirol" files
section with all the CC data for each.
You could grab the Logic files & do a comparison of CC data to
eliminate that possibility.

Thanks for replying, Richard. I'm running Logic 6.4.3 I think (whatever
the most recent version was that they released virtually weeks before
version 7. just bought 6 not too long ago. GRRR). Anyway, I have an
Evolution MK-461C controller. To sort of answer my own question, I've
found that I can assign cc data to control faders in the environment, and
the faders in turn control parameters of the soft synths. I've also found
that I can use a transform object, but I need a separate instance of each
object for each and every parameter I want to control/automate.

You only need one transformer per Audio Inst object. Look into the
"use map" transformer operation for mapping input CC #s to output
Fader #s ...
