hi judith,
what version of logic are you using?
in logic 7 you can extract the audio from the video file and put it on
an audio track in logic. that way, you have all the control over the
volume of your sync audio as you would like, ( including automation,
useful sometimes when composing)
on early versions of logic, you need to export the audio as a separate
file in another app. you should be able to do this in final cut
express, just export an AIFF of your captured video, drag it into
logic, put the start at your movie start position and you are away.
re speeding up your digitizing process... if there is a way to digitize
in final cut express directly to the format that you are subsequently
converting to, this will obviously save time. another thing you can do
is to specify to the producer of the projects you work on that you
require your video supplied either on CDROM or DVDROM already in
quicktime format, in the compression format that you require. it
amazes me how many composers don't demand this! it's _easier_ for the
edit suite to output a quicktime and burn it to a data DVD or CDROM
than to have to make you a VHS tape, seeing as they are almost all
working in avid or final cut pro suites nowadays..
anyway, hope this helps,
antonio
