I tried the pitch correction plugin for the first time and haven't used
such a tool yet. It sounds good to me, for vocals an even for a bass if
one likes to have the bass sound a bit "narrower".
Can anyone give a short comparison to other tools like Autotune? Is
there something we should be aware of in certain situations?

The actual correction sounds "ok" compared to Autotune but I like
to
automate my correction on and off to suit the vocal (nice to be a little out
sometimes) and the L7 glitches horribly when it cuts in and out due to the
delay compensation switching in and out. Autotune doesn't do this so I'll be
sticking with it for now!

A workaround could be, instead of automating the plugin, running the pitch
correction on a separate track and fade/mute in and out with the non
processed track. That would eliminate the delay compensation problem and
probably save you the cost of Autotune.

Sorry to go over old ground. I know I've seen posts about this issue but as
I didn't have Logic 7 at the time I ignored them.
I installed Logic Pro 7 yesterday and have had it crash on me 4 times so far
today, always when grabbing scroll bars in various windows. Twice I had no
plugin GUI's on screen, twice I did. Is this an acknowledged issue and is
there a workaround which has been confirmed to work?
Thanks for any help.

Actually, you could easily make a copy of the questionable track (regions)
and crossfade back and forth between the Logic plug corrected one and the
original, avoiding the bypass glitches. For that matter, You could also
send the track to two different busses, one with the pitch correction, one
without and select or crossfade between one or the other as you go using
automation.

Hi Jules,
I just went through this yesterday, so I may not have the total picture, but
it seems to be
related to Waves. Despite downloading the Waveshell AU update before
installing Logic, I
can reliably crash LP7 by opening a Waves plug-in and touching a scroll bar,
and Logic
seems pretty stable if I leave the Waves plugs out. Since I mostly use L1 to
sparkle up a
finished piece, my workaround (until Waves does something about their
Waveshell) is to
get the piece the way I want it, insert the L1 and press 'play.' After
recording my final mix,
I remove the L1 and save.
I saw a discussion about disabling Quartz Extreme to fix this, but check
out:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/logic-users/message/176526
I don't know if anyone knows for sure.

I have the latest Waveshell beta as well, but I have no Waves plugins in
these projects at all. Also, Logic is crashing with no plugin GUI's on
screen at all, so my impression is that it's a Logic issue, not a plugin
problem, but I can't be totally sure.
I'll check the Quartz extreme thread, but that looks like a different issue
to me. I never had this issue or anything like it with Logic 6.4.2.
Thanks again

I don't think you need to actually have the GUI showing for Logic to be
destabilized by the
plug-ins, (I crashed when L1 was in the song, althought not onscreen) and
I'm reasonably
certain that, although Waves is the plug that does my system in, there are
likely other ones
out there that do the same. Maybe you have one or two I don't have that
crash on
scrolling.
I'm sure I've read here that LP7 is stable as long as you have no
third-party plug-ins.
Whoopee. Finger-pointing time again!

Sonny
I have been following this thread from the start, having isolated
the scroll bar as the culprit a while back. Here are some of the
main issues.
There is supposition that it is a problem with the AUs coding, but
I had a lot of plugs disabled and it happened still.(I don't even
use waves anymore and it happens...also in pHATmatik pro, Reaktor, i-
Drum and Stylus)
While there is no conclusive proof that it is a Logic problem, based
on a response from Glenn Olander on the Spectrasonics forum, both
Gareth and I are pretty sure it is in fact a Logic problem.
Michael Haydn is aware of the problem and while not an official
company stance, has advised avoiding entering text in Au windows
(not sure why).
The Quartz disabler doesn't seem to have any direct bearing on the
issue.
Until the problem is solved my best advice is to navigate using key
commands and/or the scroll wheel on the mouse. I have been doing
that for 2 weeks now and haven't had a single crash.

LOL :-))
I'm pretty sure I also read it was stable as long as you kept it in the box
and didn't place it on or near any computers!! (just kidding)
Actually aside from these scroll bar crashes, Logic 7 has been pretty
impressive so far. Screen redraws are snappier, scrolling (when it doesn't
crash!) is snappier, menus, lots of graphics stuff all seems very tight.
Even Hyperedit line tool works now - I'm off to celebrate!
... oh and without wanting to restart a war, I actually quite like the GUI
now I've got used to it.

Many thanks, David. I've been able to make it work well enough using
pretty much those techniques, but it's good to know that there is some
sort of Apple acknowledgement, however unofficial.

Thanks for the info.
Is there a way to scroll horizontally in the environment and matrix editor
without using the scroll bars? Presumably the mousewheel won't work in this
context. I have to say, it seems pretty crazy that we have to avoid the
scroll bars to keep the application from crashing, but perhaps we'll see a
fix. It'd be nice to know one way or another if it's Logic or plugins
causing the problem, although I have had Phatmatik and Stylus RMX running,
so perhaps there's some continuity emerging.
Perhaps Emagic can implement a telepathic scroll capability, so we can avoid
the problem altogether!!

I completely agree with all of the above. Lots to be happy about, and we all
know 7.01 and
7.02 will be just around the corner with many of our minor frustrations
addressed.

Is there a way to automate the mutes? If not, would
using track automation be the best way to do this? Or
are there any other suggestions?
Thanks as always, JP

Hi
I also have a G5 2x2. I had to use the Quartz Extreme disabling
solution. However, I just updated recently to 10.3.6. Although the
details of what it fixed were minimal, it did mention graphics card
driver fixes. So, after updating I re-enabled Quartz Extreme to give
it a go. Good News! I haven't had any further problems with freezing.
I should clarify that I don't have Waves, and have never had the Waves
freeze, but this may be related.
