Hi,
Watch out when quoting! It was me who said:
> "My point is that I'd prefer Emagic to stay in the hi-tech niche
with some of their products and
> don't add features that pro's wouldn't use."
!
> I TOTALLY DISAGREE !!!
> If that were the case then "Pro Tools" would not have
implemented the ability to encode mp3's using Fraunhofer's MP3ENC (which is
one of the better encoders) in their new 5.0 version software.
you didn't understand what I meant: I didn't want them to include MP3 the
way Vegas does! I'd love to see an encoder AFTER recording the master, but
no MP3 as source. As discussed with other people on the list, there might
for some
people be need for MP3 as raw sources as well, but in a different context.
> Are you (Tobin) saying that Pro Tools users won't use the mp3 features?
I (Joeri) know that Protools doesn't let you use MP3 in your mixes! It's a
different implementation.
> Don't you think that maybe Pro Tools put that feature in because the
"pro" users asked for it?
See above.
> MP3's are not necessarily geared to the "non-pro" market but
rather to those who wish to put their music on the net and easily and
quickly exchange music or musical ideas . It's just a quicker, different way
to exchange music.
EXACTLY! but not to use it when mixing: you're mixing uncompressed files,
not compressed ones!
> I just feel that Emagic is ALWAYS just a step behind their competitors.
That's because they want their products to be the most stable; I guess...
> I know that mp3 is not for everyone, but why not have the option?
Right now we can export it via other programs, so there is a workaround.
There are more urgent things on the to-do list which don't have a
workaround.
Ciao,
Joeri
