I just got Stylus RMX. One of its best features is a drag and drop
midi file. I tried it and L6 instantly crashed. The tried it on L7,
same deal. Permissions repaired. Prefs tossed. Same deal. Then
tried dragging a midi file created in Logic off desktop. Same deal.
We have a second machine which my assistant uses. Nearly identical
setup...no problem there. (biggest difference is we use AMTs on the
machine with the prolmes and midi lan on the one that's behaving).
We're stumped.
Does anybody know what the !@#$ is going on?
Thanks in Advance and Much Appreciated,

Things to try:
Import. I know this works. I've had clients with the same issue use this as
a workaround.
Delete your Setup Assistant prefs. Someone told me this got their midi
import working again.
Some things to try anyways..
Good Luck
George
BTW The client who had these same issues ran AMT's as well.

I read on a forum that if you have too many *hardware* Midi modules
connected to your system (over 8 I believe), it causes this crash. I
repeated this to someone else on another forum, and when he removed
some gear, the crashing problem went away. It apparently has to do
with Apple's Audio Midi Setup.
I have lots more than 8 pieces of gear attached, and I get the same
crash as you. The only solution currently is to use the workarounds
that have been suggested here.....

Just to add to the confusion...on my machine I WILL crash with
importing SMF's into Logic Pro 6 and 7. However, with Stylus
RMX...I dragged the midi from the box onto a track, held my
breath...and lo! it worked fine.
BTW I'm using 2 MTPAV's...

I found a quick fix that avoids having to actually unplug midi cables:
I have an AudioMidi setup with all my midi gear - but drag and drop
of midi files causes an instant crash in Logic.
I made a duplicate setup and simply deleted some of the less-used
items' icons, to get down to a total of 7.
Ta-daaa!! No crash.
I seem to be able to swop between the 2 setups while working in Logic
without any problems.
So....I'll use the cutdown setup when working with RMX and doing
drag-and-drop, then go back to my full setup when I'm done.
Beats pulling cables out and seems to work okay.
Hope this helps someone.......
