Subject: Digital Crackling with 002R &CoreAudio and Logic
Message #176084
Hello, I've been expierencing Digital Crackling noises, like out of sync clock distortion when I use my 002R and Logic Using CoreAudio 6.5.2. The clock is set to INTERNAL. This is happening in 2 different systems with identical machines. (G5 2.0 Ghz / 5.5 Gb RAM, 002R and Logic 6.4 or Logic 7. I also have a MOTU PCI 424 and a 2408 in one of them , and this problem never happens when I use COre Auido with the PCI-424 To fix it, I have to restart the 002R. Is there anything I should be aware of using this combination? Thanks! Daniel

Subject: Logic 5.5 - 2408 mk1 and mackie digital board - Mix Setup
Message #177744
This is a reply to #176084.
OS9 - Logic 5.5 - 2408 mk1 and mackie digital board I am trying to help a friend setup his studio to mix. - currently he is using 24 digital output tracks in logic - the 2408 PCI Console is set -bank 1 = ADAT - -bank 2 = ADAT -bank 3 = ADAT he also did this - he took the master Digital MACKIE out to SPDIF in in 2408 - he took the master Digital MACKIE in to SPDIF OUT in 2408 however, he would like to be able to play the 24 tracks ( and other stuff) out of the digital light pipe outputs into the Mackie board, then take the master out of the Mackie - and go into the SPDIF in of the 2408 and create an extra audio track to mix to - and assign the input to SPDIF and the output to SPDIF OUT - then monitor on the Mackie thru digital SPDIF IN (monitor - with no feedback problems) I don't think this actually can work like this: can it? - since he is using all 24 outputs on the 2408 - I will bet that you cannot also use the SPDIF at the same time ... Correct? - does he also need a second 2408 to accomplish this? -- Thanks - RevDave Lists@... [db-lists] Check out some great Domain Names at: http://www.domains4days.com

Subject: Does the ESX24 Have a Load Limit?
Message #177889
This is a reply to #177744.
GEAR: G5 Dual 2 ghz CPU System 10.3.4 4 gigs of ram Logic 6.4.2 Does the ESX24 have a limit as to what it can load from the sampler instruments folder? All instruments below as certain point do not load. Nothing happens when I try to load them. If I move a folder or instrument which does not load higher on the list ( putting a space before the name ) and refreshing the menu, the sound will load. Size of the EXSamples fldr is 120 gig. Size of the current ESX Inst Fldr is 35 gig and all sounds load. At 38 gigs all sounds do not load. There may be in excess of 3000 folders in the Inst fldr. There may in be excess of 5000-6000 instruments or so. Is there a limit to the number of instruments to ESX24 can scan or recognize and if so, does anyone know what causes the limit? Thank you for your help! -- Thanks - RevDave Lists@... [db-lists] Check out some great Domain Names at: http://www.domains4days.com

Did you say that you have 5000-6000 instruments in the EXS instruments folder and the size of the folder is 35-38 GB? Or did you mean MB? If you really meant GB,it cant be so.The size of a folder containning 5000 exs instruments should be 50-60 MB.Are you sure there are no samples in there? best wishes andy

Redmatica has a substitute for the Project Manager called EXS Manager, and I remember reading about the limit. Here's a quote from their product page. "Shatter the current OSX file limits when streaming The exclusive SampleMerge process let you consolidate your sample library in the lowest possible number of (big) files. In this way, when streaming, the current (as of 10.3.x) OSX limitation of up to 8192 open files simultaneously is no more a limit and you can use many more instruments simultaneously, as you are streaming from a much lower number of files. Just as an example, the VSL Pro edition library, consisting in origin of more than 413000 sample files cab be consolidated to a set of just 112 (one hundred-twelve) sample files." Here's the URL for the page I copied this from: http://www.redmatica.com/Site/Pages/EM.php Btw, EXS Manager works great.. Stefan
