For harder edge stuff I like the White Grand http://www.sampletekk.com, and for mellower stuff I like the Old Lady (9' vintage Steinway) from Post Pianos http://www.postmusicalinstruments.com. I hear Ivory from Ilio is a nice package, but a lot more expensive. Haven't tried it but demos for all the above are available on their respective websites. I haven't heard a Bosendorfer sim I like, but that's just me. If you like Bosendorfers some one on the list who really knows them will hopefully chime in here. I'm more of a fan of Steinways as I have a real one, and just prefer the Steinway sound. James

Here's my vote for "the old lady" and for "the emperor" both from here: http://www.postpiano.com/home.php I'm a bosendorfer fan and the emperor sounds great. I'm not a steinway fan and the old lady still sounds great! Also for ivory... And in a mix, some of the sampletank pianos just fit right. I'm looking for the sampled fazioli of my dreams! Any opinions out there on the White Grand vs Ivory for "harder edge stuff"? Any other contenders for best rock piano? Also - d'ya need a dual G5 to run the White Grand, or do some of you have it working on older slower systems? I've only got a G4/733, but I lerrrrve the sound of the White Grand rock demos, and kinda like thumpin' the sh*t out of a piano meself... :-) Thanks in advance, Bill Canty

I made a pact with myself to not buy another controller keyboard until I've killed current ones! Otherwise...... A pmi sampled one would be cool. Steve.

Well, if you happen to be an acoustic piano player first and foremost, and you've gone through that deal where you find yet another sampled digital piano that you really like when you first try it, but find yourself wondering if you really like it the more you play it. Go then and play the ProMega the second time, and the third, and well, the point is that every time you play it you'll fall increasingly in love with it. It's sad that more of the mainstream retailers don't carry these. I guess the price point is just a little high.. Well, I have mine! Good Luck in your quest! Stefan

Actually, I'm kinda the opposite. I have a knee-jerk hate-it reaction to new sampled pfs and then they grow on me as I get a feel for them. Steve.

Checked this link out and was a little confused. Is this for a hardware or software piano? Couldn't find any software ones. James

It's just loaded on a Cubase machine here right now. No AU version yet, but I've heard it'll be released very soon, and will be a free download for any Ivory owner. The plugin is just a tiny little thing that points to a huge sample library. 8 DVDs worth! So you need around 35GB free space on your drive to be able to load in all the different pianos. I think we'll need to install a drool gaurd on the controller keyboard. A bunch of real piano players are quite freaked out about it. And I'm guessing some piano manufacturers (and expensive studios with expensive rooms and pianos) might also be freaked out but not in a good way. f-erenc szabo, smarty pants Z+E+R+O+B+E+A+T "NOW POWERED BY THE MIRACLE OF THE TRANSISTOR!" <http://home.goodmedia.com/~zerobeat>

I recommend the Bosendorfer 290 from Bardstown audio. It's available in EXS format at 16 or 24 bits. Mr. McGinnis is a great guy to deal with. -- Ben Harrison
