Why do you need mp3 encoding in Logic? You can do it so easily so many other
places. Maybe 'pros' do use mp3s but I don't see the point in adding it to
logic. Besides, it makes more sense adding it to a masetering software
program like Sound Forge - you don't want to encode until you've done that
anyway.
MP3 playback in logic would be pointless. It's pointless because it takes
more power to decode and play an mp3 stream than a wav file, and the quality
of the mp3 would really show after a few DSP algorithms had been used on it.
The idea of doing premix in mp3 and then finalizing with the original waves
is cool, but wouldn't work, because the mp3 stream takes more horsepower
than the wav would. Perhaps you could save a few megabytes, but it wouldn't
be worth it to anyone - you can buy a 10 gig disk these days for under a
$100.

Ermm, if all your competitors jumped off a bridge...
I'm curious - could you tell me what you would use mp3 encoding in logic
for? What could you do with it you couldn't do with an external mp3 encoding
app, like we all do already?
