Will it finally be possible to use multiple EXS24's in a drum map
and simply select the drum map on a track in the Arrange window? (I
mean for real this time... not only in Play mode, or whatever the
exact limitation was before that made it essentially useless for
me.) I want to be able to quickly dial in drum kits using a drum
map, using multiple EXS instruments that each comprise collections
of snares, kicks, toms and cymbals.
Thanks,
David

We now have Ultrabeat, a dedicated drum-sampler/machine
/synthesizer/sequencer
I doubt very much that the functionality that you're looking for
will be in LP7. It's kinda outdated now, Ultrabeat will be far more
flexible for beat creation and manipulation than any general purpose
sampler could ever be.

I don't think you're right on that one, at least for the way I
create beats, which is to simply play the drum kit all at once on my
keyboard, just like playing a real kit... kick, snare, cymbals,
toms... all at the same time. I don't see how a dedicated drum
machine will improve my work flow in any way whatsoever. I would
never want to go back to entering beats like I used to in my old
drum machine -- say kick and snare first, then hi-hats, then
whatever. I consider that to be a very unfluid approach. But if
the new Logic drum machine does somehow add great functionality to
people who play drum kits "live", then perhaps that will be
interesting to see. I'm not holding my breath.
What I've been waiting for forever is to not have to construct drum
kits and save each individual kit as an instrument. I have oodles
and oodles of snares, grouped and saved by category as individual
EXS instruments. I've got a collections of dry snares, of wet
snares, of trash can snares, of rap snares, of electronic snares.
The same goes for kicks... dry kicks, floppy kicks, rap kicks,
etc..
Will Logic 7 allow me to put multiple instances of EXS instruments
(e.g., one for a dry snare collection, one for a floppy kick
collection, one for a Clearmountain hi-hat collection, one for my
own crash and ride collection, one for my dry tom collection) into
an environment where I route through a drum map to these separate
EXS instrument collections so that C2 goes to the kick instrument,
D2 to the snare instrument, F#, G# and A# to the hi-hat instrument,
etc.. Then I could simply assign the drum map to an Arrange track
and play the assembled kit. Now THAT is what I would call brilliant
flexibility. Is it possible in L7?
Thanks,
David
