I saw the feature to quickly enable external synths. This is awesome, it was
just a pain to
do before, especially at 3 in the morning. But does this also allow external
effects? E.g.
routing a softsynth out a specific output to an effect and then back in
through another
dedicated input.

you can already do this using an output from your audio card, to the
fx, and back in as a live input..

But if we could have our external FX in the inserts menus where you get
your other plugins, so that when you picked the FX unit Logic would use
the appropriate inputs and outputs of your audio interface and delay
compensation (user definable delay as well) to insert that piece of
hardware into the signal.
I know you can already do the same thing with the I/O plugin, but this
would be way more elegant once set up.

What you are saying is what I do now, however, in Logic 7 you can
integrate external instrument into your Audio Mixer objects and so
your Korg MS2000 can show up right next to you EXS24, with out having
to fidget with other settings. I just want to know if you can do this
with external effects, choosing them from the insert menu. BTW this
was a new feature in Cubase SX 3. It's a timesaver and a makes less
interuption of workflow, or musicflow in this case.
