Subject: Is Logic 7 able to handle multitibral plugins?
Message #172121
Does anybody know? Will I still have to open 16 SampleTanks to play 16 midichannels in SampleTank?

That is how it works now with Multitimbral Audioinstruments. The only annoying factor being that you need to use the multiinstrument to record in the arrange, then use the aux it sends its audio to to apply fx, sends etc. I would surely hope they fixed us a new way of doing this in 7. You were already able to use ALL 16 channels of a multitimbral AI without having to open 16 instances, There was a workaround using the environment. But it seems, for what is written in the PDF, that Logic 7 will address them directly. Fernando Manuel Rodrigues

In the environment copy the AudioInstrument Object in question and change the MIDI channel of the copy (It's a good idea to change the name of it also!). So you'll have two identical AudioInstruments (same SampleTank, same inserts, same sends, same volume, same pan, same mute etc...) except the MIDI channels will be different. But now we know that these two AIs on two different Arrange tracks will actually point to two separate MIDI channels inside SampleTank (or other multitimbral virtual instruments). Repeat until you have 16 of them. f-erenc szabo, smarty pants Z+E+R+O+B+E+A+T "NOW POWERED BY THE MIRACLE OF THE TRANSISTOR!" <http://home.goodmedia.com/~zerobeat>

Still no multi-channel automation in L7. You have been able to cobble together an object that will record and play all channels of a multi-instrument for some time. However, you still will not be able to automate volume, filters etc. of the instruments within the plugin in Logic 7 if what I've read from Michael Haydn is correct. Any volume changes, for example, will still change the entire plugin's volume (and all instruments within).
