How so, just out of interest? I have the Giga version of the Post
Bösendorfer 290 and haven't had to do anything to make it sound
abso-freaking-lutely awesome.

First up: I'm talking about the plug-in version of the instrument (running
on an OEM Kontakt engine), and haven't experienced the sampler versions at
all, so I don't know where the difference lies.
But: its not that the sounds / samples are deficient in any way at all -
they are top notch. Its that the included programs take more work to get
them playing as well as The Grand does.
For example: there is no program included which switches between a different
sample set according to whether the pedal is up or down. Both sets of
samples are included - but no preset program to switch between them; you
have to roll your own multi, containing both sides, and assign them
according to the pedal status. In The Grand, you don't have to do this
yourself!
If I'm wrong, and just missing something, I'd be grateful if someone could
point it out! Its a bit of a pain otherwise, and mars an otherwise great
instrument.
As I said earlier, I have very high hopes for Ivory. The MP3 demos sound
awesome, but time will tell as to whether it behaves well!
Best wishes,

Whilst on the subject, is it normal for Bösendorfer 290 presets to take
about 1 to 5 minutes to load in the Kontakt player within Logic?

Add a couple of extra minutes of boot time when you add a Powercore and
UAD-1..

Thanks - now I know it's not just here.

Yeah but what hardware synths sound as good as the PMI
Bosendorfer? JP

Dunno - it takes so long to load a Bosendorfer patch that I really get
sick of waiting to find out what it sounds like and how easily my G4/733
conks out.
Will try again when I get a G5.
