Yes, and the upgrade price is only one third the new price!
Nice one apple.

As someone who purchased logic pro 6 less than a year ago, I think this is
pretty tacky. I'll buy it but I still think it is tacky. Any news on
compatibility issues with plug-ins or old tunes?

What? Are you saying you find Logic Pro 6 so lousy that you can't use
it for another year? ;-) I guess you didn't pay extra for all those
virtual instruments that came "for free" with L6?
All the best
Per Boysen (bought most plug-ins "old school")

Why? How far in advance should they keep people in the loop? If they
said today that Logic 7 is coming out now, but Logic 8 will be released
somewhere around December of next year, would you not upgrade? What if
they announced their release schedule for several versions out, what
would you do then?
I fail to understand your logic (pardon the pun). You upgraded at the
time when it made sense for you to do so (and if it didn't make sense
then you have no one else to blame), and now Apple has upgraded the
product as they will inevitably do about once every 18 months or
thereabouts. You now have the exact same choice you had then, which is
"does it make sense for me to upgrade now?" If the answer is yes
then
bust out the credit card, if not then sit back an use Logic 6 (which is
still the most advanced DAW/MIDI software on the market; the
announcement of v7 doesn't suddenly mean v6 is worthless).
I could maybe -- and only maybe -- understand if you upgraded
yesterday, but you imply that it's been quite a bit longer than that.

Logic Audio Pro 6.4.2
PowerMac G4 933MHz
OS X 10.3.4
1 GB RAM
MOTU 828mkII
- driver v1.09
- CueMix v1.4
it fits right in with the current apple upgrade pricing with things
like FCP and DVDSP, so not a surprise really if you know the rest of
Apples pro software products.
I expected this kind of price, and expect to pay it every year or so,
But also expect Big Things to be happening in future versions, as FCP
and DVDSP have evolved in huge leaps. Also, other Apple upgrades do not
force you to upgrade every version, you can skip a version and still
pay the same price, so lets hope they stick with this pattern.

(who if he didn't have a girlfriend would be buying another G5 in month

I'm with you on this one Brian.
I cant wait for Logic 8
even if its next week, and I just finished blowing $300 on Logic 7.
Progress never stops.
The important aspect is that if every update makes the program superior
to what it was, and to the competition, then who cares how often they
update. PT is in the 6's, Avid is in the 7's. Look at Reason. at 2.5
(great program mind me) but their upgrading is painfully slow, so then
you work with a program almost 2 years old with no real improvements,
or added features.
Granted some of these companies probably have a 4'x4' cubicle with 2
guys(or girls) jamming away on some code, so updating is slow, and not
a big user forum to pitch in ideas and needs like the LUG. PT's forum
is huge, maybe too big for Digi programmers to fit every wish so many
users need, but with Logic (big in its own way) there seems to be more
wiggle room.
IMHO we seem to get more bang for the buck with Logic than with any
other sequencing program anywhere. It might be my bias having used
logic for over 8 years now, but when I travel to other studios, using
other sequencers that are not Logic, although they work well because
you get used to the quirks of other programs, the fastest and most
precise jobs are done with Logic, so far.
Well thats my rant for the day, back to my sound design

I've had a change of heart on my own statement. Why?
1) I've made money with the Pro 6 version that I would not have made using
DP (my old app).
2) My mac doesn't crash and my hardware (control surface, 2408/3 etc) don't
crash anymore.
3) The version 7 appears to be a true upgrade.
4) The support on-line and at Apple has been stunning even for stupid
questions.
5) With Logic, we get LUG and George Leger not to mention actual Logic
developers. I know George is here out of kindness but he has helped me and
that has value to me and gives me more faith in the app in a strange sort of
way.
I can't wait.

I'm glad someone mentioned making money.
For me, Hardware and Software are tools that I invest in in order to
get jobs done and make money. (like a paintbrush
If, in my opinion, it isn't a good investment of my money or time, I
don't do it. Simple really.
Of course I find the Logic upgrades to be incredible value for money,
and in my world they pay for themselves very quickly indeed.
Of course I have already ordered the L7 upgrade.

You found support on-lline where? Do you mean w/
emagic? They haven't even replied to my last few
queries.

No argument here. I second this about George, a
fantastic resource. And this is not to slight all of
the other regular experienced posters who are always
willing to take the time to answer even the most basic
questions. I've said it before, I can't imagine
learning this program without the help of this group.
Thanks JP

I'm all warm and fuzzy ;-)
Thanks. I like helping out, and the benefit for me is I get to learn as
well. And while I can't speak for anyone else, i imagine they all feel
the same way.
I love Logic, and will stand firm with my assertion that there is no
better app for music creation, bar none... No one touches the midi,
ease of use (once you "get" how Logic thinks), and fluidity of use
and
function.
Mixing, that's another issue, and Logic has a way to go before I'll use
it to do final mixes. No delay compensation, with a UAD-1 and
Powercore, make mixing an exercise in math, not music. It shouldn't be
this way, and Apple (strange saying that after the eMagic name for so
long) MUST rectify this issue. It should be the #1 priority, in my
opinion.
I look forward to L7, and I'm really looking forward to creating a
tutorial for it.
I love playing with this stuff, figuring out how to use it the best,
fastest, easiest ways to get the thing I want done with it: to get the
music out of my head with the least "stuff" in the way.
See ya all in the new L7. It looks cool to me.
George
PS Now if I could just find a way to convince Apple to "give" me a
copy, rather than having to pay for it...
