My VistaPrint Electronic Business CardGuys,
Has anybody had an issue with muting tracks in Logic using the Mackie/Logic
Controller? When I mute the track using the contreoller the mute light
doesn't go on in logic but it does work. Any ideas?
Thanks

When you say the "mute light" - are you referring to the track
mutes in
the arrange page, or the mixer mutes in the mixer page?
The Mackie Controller always mutes the mixer channels, not the arrange
tracks, as they are two different things.
If you *do* mean that the mixer channels mute but you don't see the
mute lights go on, then that is indeed weird and you should probably
try doing the usually prefs trash/rebuild defaults/reinstall dance...

I am referring to the lights in the arrange page. Why are these different?
Many thanks

Ok, record ten tracks of guitar solo, each on AudioTrack Object 4. Now
mute all but one of the arrangement tracks.
See the difference ?

I am being a bit dumb here but could you explain. When you say record 10
guitar solos on audiotrack object 4, do you mean record 10 solos on tracks
1-10 or 10 tracks all over each other on track 4?

Neither. You can have multiple Arrange tracks all using the same
"voice" (Audio object), and thus the same plugins, volume, pan,
etc.
Only one audio region will actually play at any time (whichever one
started last).
By way of example, make 10 Arrange tracks, all assigned to "Audio
4"
- select the "Audio 4" arrange track and choose "Functions
>> track >>
create" 10 times, or use the keycommand. Now record one take on each
of those tracks.
You can mute each track individually in the Arrange, which is handy
when comping (move cut-up stuff to/from muted tracks), or you can mute
the entire "Audio 4" playback "voice" using the Track
Mixer or Audio
environment layer.
There is one more layer of mutes - if you cut up the audio takes, you
can individually mute specific regions with the mute tool. It's all
about flexibility.
Also check out "auto-create tracks in cycle record" (?) in
recording
options. Only works when recording one track, but can be very convenient.
