First, sorry for I've not a good knowlege in technic, just know how to use the soft and hard that work with ... so I cannot say more than what follows (I'm musician, mainly acoustic instruments, but not sound engineer, although I uses Logic for years). I use the regularly EMI 2/6 for 3 years and also a EMI 6/2m for 1 year and half first on an iBook 600 MHz, Mac OS 10.1 and later Jaguard with Logic 5 to 6 then on a Powerbook 12" 800 MHz, Jaguard on Logic 6 and now on a Powerbook 12" 1Gg 768 MB RAM, Panther (10.3, 10.3.3 and now 10.3.4) with Logic 6 and now Logic Pro 6.4.2. I have no problem BUT I don't use digital 'cause the few attempts I tried where not good at all. But I didn't went further with digital so perheaps missed I something. I have now a Yamaha 01X for 2 months, so I use it mainly at home. I had with it such "clip" problems and it happens when wordclock is not synchronized between Logic and the 01X. I remember to have such problems with the EMI at the beginning, and it had something to see with the clock source, but don't remember really the details, where I had mistaken and what I did to correct. I just made now some recordings to test, from microphones and from a MD, with the two EMIs, and no problems in analogic. As to test digital, I tried with my DAT (Tascam DA20) to the EMI 2/6. It's unusable : as soon as the DAT tape runs (as soon as signal is send, I presume), I have permanent cracks and sound is not good. (kind of phasing). This is the same when listening to the recording through digital output, but not not so awful with the analogic output but still not good (only some cracks and signal is low although it was at its maximum for recording). What's also strange is that I have to displug the EMI to be able to use the anologic outputs (and consequently to reboot the session, as EMI is not recognized if not plugged at boot, but it's another problem). I have no time to test further today and I cannot explain more, ... there is a big hole in my knowledge ;-). --- Gérald Ryckeboer ryckeboerg@... http://ryckeboerg.free.fr
