Personally I could use a good SW sampler. I would imagine that it would be far less of a challenge to create one in software than to do something like a virtual analog synth. After all there actually have been virtual samplers around for quite awhile. Even the quicktime musical instrument is basically a sample player you can even load your own sounds into it if you want.
