Hi all,
I know that some of you have been using GPO and I was wondering if the
earlier problems that had been mentioned, have been resolved as yet. I
believe there was a graphical bug?
I am thinking that it looks like pretty good value and just want to
make sure that the compatibility issues are minimal.
Regards,
Matt

Hi Matt, "Pretty good value" is a vast understatement IMO. Try
"Incredible" and yes, they have fixed the GUI bug.
Run, don't walk to pick up this piece.
Cheers

The graphical bug is the same one talked about and experienced by many
Kontakt users in general. Supposedly this problems has been fixed by
Emapple in the Logic Pro update.

This problem is a Kontakt problem ; it has been fixed in Kontakt 1.5.3

While I would second my voice to the quality of the Garritan Library, I
haven't been so
happy with the performance of the "kontakt player" that you comes
with the GPO. I'm not
referring to the "GUI bug" but to some other irritating issues:
Any time I load an instrument patch within GPO, the midi channel for that
instrument is set
to 1 (within the kontakt player of the GPO). I have to manually switch it
over to "omni" in
order to get it to respond to the midi either from my keyboard controller or
the midi data
on the track. This setting gets lost every time I switch patches, and I have
to select "omni"
again. Gets quite annoying when you're auditioning patches...
There's some real weirdness with volume control. Unlike any other software
instrument I
own, teh GPO kontakt player seems think that the mod wheel on my keyboard is
for
volume changes - which wouldn't be such a problem with, except for the fact
that it
always assumes that its volume should be next to nothing until told
otherwise. This means
that every time I load a new patch, switch to another instrument in Logic,
or even when I
close and then open the song in Logic, the GPO kontakt player sets itself to
minimal
volume. I then have to go and fiddle with the mod wheel to send the midi
data to the
player so it will "wake up" and put itself where I want it. I
don't mind so much that it listens
for volume data from the mod wheel, I just wish I could have the instruments
default to
full value, and if I don't ever touch my mod wheel, they shouldn't change!
Isn't anyone else using GPO bugged by these bugs?

You could make yourself a little transformer that copies the note velocity
to
mod wheel value.
But yes, it bugs me as well. Running GPO through their standalone VST thing
allows to turn that off. I wish I could do that for Logic as well.

Isreal,
This is a Logic "feature" It always resets CC1 data on re-start or
stop.
This needs to be offered as an option IMO. To not be able to defeat this
behavior is annoying to say the least.
you can workaround though. Just print an initial CC1 value into the
event list or suchlike.
PS, I agree about the midi channel defaults but I'm not sure why they
keep resetting on your rig. I set mine to 1, 2 etc. and the selections
stay put.
Cheers

Oh, by the way the link to the page with the workaround files is.

On the Garritan website there was a workaround posted by Peter Delano
in the form of a Logic song file. However I have been unable to
succesfully load this file. Actually there are 2 files, and neither
load for me. Has anyone else tried these?

Same here. These are probably PC not mac files.
