Has anyone already tested one of the new M-Audio FireWire interfaces
(410 or 1814)? How is the sound, how is the integration with OSX
10.3.x?
Consider to buy a firewire audio/midi interface for my powerbook. Don't
need a highend solution like the mobile i/o, but don't want a lowend
interface either. So it should be something with decent quality for the
price. And it should be portable.
Cheers

I have a 410. Sounds pretty good to be, and has enough I/O for
overdubbing and surround mixing. A bit of latency that can be worked
around with their control panel...

Now both Mac OSX and Windows XP... the only way to fly ;-)

The M-Audio Firewire 410 sounds fine to me. The midi side seems to disappear
from
time to time. The drivers in general seem a bit iffy with OSX. The Tascam
US-122
works much more reliably for me but it is USB and only 2 in and 2 out.
Hope this helps

For the 410 I would also add:
1) The sound quality is ok but not great.
2) Misleading specs - it's really a 2 IN 8 Out card with digital ins
and outs.

Hi Patrick,
recently I was doing a keyboard overdub session and the player had one of
these for
playback from his laptop,a Sony VAIO.
It worked one time, and after a few minutes,we decided to switch to an older
interface,because studio time was running.
I have not seen it in use with a macintosh yet,but I have seen posts of
other of their
products, and the drivers seem always to be unreliable for some people.
I personally use the Tascam US-122 for my iBook G4,and it has always
worked.granted the
latency can only go down to 64 samples (1.45mS @ 44100 samples/sec.)
which is acceptable to me.
I hope this helps,
Nick
FW410 in use for tracking in homestudio with Powerbook G4 and Logic
Pro. Works nicely!
It seems to be little faster when using own power supply instead of
using it from fw power.

Works fine here, though it's been used less as I now have another
interface. But for down and dirty recording, and pretty good sound,
it's a steal.
