Reid,
I have the macs all networked together with Appletalk always enabled. What
you must prevent is to have your active music station doing any file sharing
while doing LAM. There's very little penalty by having Appletalk active if
it's not used constantly.
Turn off File Sharing and you'll see an improvement.
This won't stop you from accessing files off of another "server"
at a later
time.
