Almost...I have the little brother, an 8600/300. I upgraded with an XLR8 MachCarrier G3 400Mhz. 192 MB Ram, OS8.6, LAMG 4.04. There is most certainly a performance increase. My machine is currently running at 432 Mhz, cool and reliably - certainly at least as reliable as it's stock configuration. To be honest, I can't remember the last time it crashed. And when the time comes, I have the ability to swap out the G3 ZIF for a G4 if I so choose.
