Subject: [LUG] [LAW] Latency issues
Message #158420
Hey all, I have Emagic's Logic 5.5 and I am having some troubles with it. My setup is as follows: Computer Setup: AMD Processor @ 2G NVIDIA 128MB video card 24 Bit S Blaster Sound card, which I don't use. 1 Gig Memory Gear Setup: TASCAM USB MIDI Interface - Replaced my sound card BOSS DR 770 Drum Machine Radium 61 Key MIDI Controller 2 JMB Flat Speaker Monitors Mic Guitar and pedal Sorry for all the detail but Most sites require people to know everything about what you have so I figured I would give everyone the benefit of the doubt ;). Okay so now my problem(s). When I open up Logic 5.5 it takes me to the regular screen with 23 to the left and tools to the far left. Problem 1, When I strike a key on my controller there is a less than one second delay before sound is generated on any track, which makes it impossible to record with the metronome or not. Side note I use reason 2.5 and there is no latency when a key is struck, it is instantaneous. Problem 2, I can open any demo song and see the layout, but when I try to play it no sound is produced, I can see in the track that there is activity. Problem 3, I am an absolute newbie to logic and maybe I am just ignorant the a fact that there may be some setting I missed. I am coming from a sonar environment, Shrugs, and would like to use Logic, protools, and reason. Heard many good things about them. Everyone thanks so much for taking the time to view my post. Laterz

You need a low latency soundcard to remedy the latency. I tried using the SoundBlaster as well, and had similar latency (just like you, Reason wasn't as bad as Logic, thats because Reason uses less resources) and then last night I got the MIA Midi and it's like night and day, Latency has basically disappeared! As far as the sound, make sure either PCAV is checked or if you get a new soundcard you may want to go with ASIO (I used PCAV to get sound to work on the Soundblaster, but now that I have the MIA I use ASIO, not PCAV. Hope that helps! Tony Logic Audio 5.5/EVB3/Reason2.5 AthlonXP2200+/512 RAM/MIA Midi
