Hi, I want to work totally in just 16 bit audio- not 24 (I have
weird reasons). How can I select this in Logic 5? Currently, I'm
working in 24. Also, I'm looking for a vst plugin that simulates a
really shitty analogue tape machine-- one that randomly slows down
and goes out of sync as well as change pitch. Any ideas? Many
thanks!

Depends on what system you are running Logic 5 on. Mac or Windows? Have a
look at http://www.kvr-vst.com/ for plug-ins.
Best wishes

yes, there is an excellent pluggo (check http://www.pluggo.com for
the free runtime version that allows the use of third party plugins
in OS X (only)), then try the "piczer"
(http://www.sonoria.pl/jk/pluggox.html/). I thinnk it will help you
achieve a sound similar to what you describe.
"Piczer is a crazy pitch-change distortion plug" (and is available
for OS 9 as well, but I believe the free runtime for Pluggo is not,
so you must own Pluggo 3 to use it).
enjoy...!

I don't remember Logic 5 that well, but I'm pretty sure that irrespective of
the version,
the bit-depth of your recording is set in the "Audio Hardware &
Drivers" settings, so
whether you have control over this might depend on your hardware and whether
you
use ASIO, DAE etc. I hope this helps.

Yes, there's a checkbox on the "Audio Hardware & Drivers"
preferences page
for 20/24 bit recording. Unchecked means 16 bits. I believe that has been
there through several revisions.
