Subject: error message-"insufficient access privileges for operations"
Message #158416
Am getting the error message "insufficient access privileges for operations" along with "result code= -5000" when trying to add audio files to Logic. Am on a G5 dual processor 2 ghz, OS 10.3, Logic 6.3.3. Any ideas, anyone?

You may be able to fix this by 'repairing privileges' with Disk Utility. Or choose another locatioon for the audiofiles by changing the record path. Cheers, Ernst.

I have two hard drives in my G5, one for OS system and applications, one for audio. Have chosen audio HD as record path. Every time I open a file in Logic that has audio, it creates a= n audio overview for all audio files and then I get the error message "insuff= icient access privileges for operations" along with "result code= -5000". Also,e= ven though I have been opening files in Logic, there is nothing listed under th= e "open recent" selection. FYI, I am on a G5 dual 2 ghz, OS 10.3. Logic 6.3.3= . Help! Need to get a job done...

Need to get a job done... The "Open Recent" problem has been much discussed. See: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/logic-users/message/147514 Perhaps the preference corruption is causing your other problem too..? Good luck. Sonny Keyes SKa Music Toronto

This is a Mac OSX problem. Someone suggested "repair privileges with disk utility". In Panther (and I believe for other OSX variants, as well), this is only possible if the partition which has the offending area also has OS X itself installed. If separate hard disks or partitions are used, all bets are off (As an aside, in my own case, given the knee jerk reaction from Apple support for almost any problem is to reinstall the operating system, I've long ago adopted the practice of putting all my Logic/music applications and files on separate partitions to avoid having to recreate my Logic environment.). The next idea is to go to the hard disk, partition, or folder under question and attempt, in the "get info" window (apple + i), to alter the permissions. The problem with this is that when attempting to propagate the desired permissions to enclosed folders (and in Logic there can be hundred, yes?), you get the impression this has worked, but when you manually check the enclosed folders, it has not worked; the enclosed folders have the same weird permissions as before. I spent hours with Apple support on the phone with this problem (not only for Logic, but for other applications as well -- it's Mac OS dependent, not Logic dependent). Got nowhere and actually deeper in the hole. Then another Apple person came up with the bright idea to disable the permissions in the relevant folder or partition. This probably isn't the official Apple position, but it made sense to the practical techie on the phone. If you're the sole user of your computer you won't be giving up anything. And Apple admits that the permissions thing doesn't work so well. This solved the problem for me. Hope this helps.
