Subject: [LUG] Firewire 800 drive for G4 Alumbook
Message #158264

Can someone recommend a good Firewire 800 drive for use with Logic Plat. 6 OSX. and my Powerbook? I was looking into Avid FW drives, but their 10,000 rpm drive requires a PCI card controller. Something 80-200 gigs will do, but I want something really fast as I am coming off of working on a protools system with a 10,000 rpm UW Avid drive. Any recommendations welcome! /m

FWIW - I tried 4 times to get my new codes but never got a response from the email server on their end. This time, by sending email to the .de and .com addresses, I got a autoreply and new codes in 4 hours. If anyone isn't getting codes, be sure you get an autoreply indicating that they have your message! Brian

I've been quite pleased with the Other World Computing FW800. I use it with my 17" Powerbook, which has a FW800 port, and also my desktop. You don't get twice the throughput of a FW400 (original spec) drive since the drive's the main limiting factor, but the FW800 protocol is more efficient than FW400, so you do get higher throughput.
