Your question is a good one and the answer also applies to SCSI ultra Vs ultra-2 You only benefit from the BUS at 66 with multiple drives as the BUS enables you to transfer at 66 rather than the drive. The sustained transfer rate from a 33 Vs a 66 is probably about the same, and only the burst rate is faster, which involves cache etc, but does not apply once the cache is full and your relying on the disk mechanics etc. Incidentally, for those who are interested DMA 100 is not far around the corner. It is for this reason that I believe Firewire is never going to take off for performance applications, but will always be a viable option for multiple drive alternitive to SCSI. Firewire requires an extra interface which obviously makes it more expensive. Hope this helps. Phil
