I can't say for certain but I'm 99.9% sure that Logic would not automatically dither any of it's output stages, you wouldn't want it to. Dither should only be applied on the last stage, and only once, as when dithering from a 24 bit master to 16 final production. HW

I wouldn't want automatic dither on outputs either. But I do on occasion miss the pre version 5 "dither" plugin, which was very useful for quick previewing a mix at 16-bit with dither, or for recording properly dithered output to 16-bit DAT, MD, DCC, sampler, etc. Are there any cheap/freeware AU bit-reduction + dither plugins out there? Well, I've certainly considered it, though the thought of buying a PC for testing doesn't exactly fill me with joy. Unfortunately the one-time licensing fee to distribute a standalone Max app for Windows is US$1000, which on top of the cost of a PC and the work required makes it look rather uneconomic. So unless something changes, it's very unlikely to happen, sorry.
