Subject: [LAW] Logic Education 5.5.1
Message #156282
Hi Thanks for all your replies people sent to me regarding my previous post (subject: [LAW] Logic Education 5.5.1 - Working Directory). - But I don't think I explained the problem very well, so'll try harder this time :).... You see I can't seem to change Logic's working directory. The FAQs say to change the "Start In:" property on the shortcut used to launch Logic. Unfortunately, whatever I set the "Start In:" property to, Logic ignores it. I have tried setting it to C:, C:Program Files, servershare and also to mapped network drives (for example). However, Logic still opens the File Open / File Save window inside its installation folder. This is fine by me, but some users are not allowed access to local disks (set by group policy). When windows denies access to the drive sometimes Logic will pause for a while and then return you to an empty project. -As if you had just created a new blank file. (this happens on 2% of cases). So I have a few users who aren't very happy at loosing all their work. I've tryed to suggest that the first thing they do with a new file is save it so if it does crash its no big deal, but no one really seems to remember. (!!) Windows 2000 sp4 power users access to local drives denied via group policy. Also, this is the education version of 5.5.1. Any assistance will be apprecaiated. Thanks in advance regards Kieran

First thing to do at the start of every new project is save the project "xxxxx.lso" to its intended target folder, giving it an appropriate name. If recording audio, it makes sense to set the same target folder for the audio files, or even put them in subfolders of this folder (drums, vox etc.). If, however, you deny your users access to local disks, obviously this is not in any way a logic related issue .... >So I have a few users who aren't very happy at loosing all their work. Understandable ... > I've tryed to suggest that the first thing they do with a new file > is save it so if it does crash its no big deal, but no one really > seems to remember. Sometimes you have to learn the hard way - like losing a client due to poor file archiving/backup/saving practices. Keep telling them this - CTRL-S, CTRL-S, CTRL-S ....until it sinks in. No more can you do .....those who still don't get it..... fail 'em ;-). HTH, kind regards Mark Cahill

Any way its not really worth pursuing. I'm going to take your advice and tell them to live with it. There is normally at least one bug in every application. If this is the worst users have to cope with then they are doing alright. Thanks for your reply Mark, much appreciated. Regards Kieran
