Has anyone here successfully set up a 2 Mac system running Logic and various
vsts, etc on 2 different machines? I'm trying to research what ooptions
there are, and I'm not getting any decent answers. I'm curious if there is
a way to send MIDI/ Audio over FireWire, or if there is a way to network
them and use it through a hub. I need to know not only what people use, but
how well the setup works, if there needs to be extra software, etc.
Also, When I get my second Mac, what do I use to host vst,s without them
being in logic?
Thanks for help given. I'm at a point where I need more power, yet I don't
want to sell my Powerbook and just get a desktop. I'd prefer to use both.

What the Emagic productlist is missing is some sort of system link,
like the VST System Link from Steinberg for Cubase.
A friend of mine uses Cubase and the VST Sytem Link, it works very good!
Steinberg has come with a new app called V-Stack, an extension rack for
the VST System Link.
With this app you can run up to 16 VSTi's on a second computer without
needing to add another sequencer
Things like this are the future for virtual music production.
I'm still waiting for Emagic to develop something like this.
I'll hope they do!!

All Native instruments and Arturia synths have a stand alone version
that allows you to do what you want to do without running a sequencer.
You can have them all running at the same time. V-Stack is good for the
PC but does not work on the Mac. There is also a low rent program
called RT player which allows you to do what you are asking about, but
only loads VST instruments for OSX it doesn't do audio units.

That's why Emagic should develop something like V-Stack that supports
audio units and some sort of AU-System Link for Logic!
If they would develop it i surely would buy it instantly!!
I find it a very good idea, a sort of AU-System Link for Logic!
Are there people here that have the same idea like me?

You need WamHole
http://www.apulsoft.ch/
it's cheap ($25) and works really well.
Panther only
Features
- Audio plugin for Mac OS X (AU/VST)
- Transmits 32 Bit audio over TCP/IP
- Low Latency on a LAN
- One 44 kHz Mono Channel requires 175 kByte/sec
- Works with any Network Interface (Ethernet, Firewire, Airport)
- Works with any Audio Units/VST host such as Logic,
Cubase SX, Live 3, Digital Performer 4.1,
Soundtrack, Metro, ...
- Can be used on a single machine to send audio between
applications or to send audio between multiple
computers.

Hey, this is fantastic! I didn't know this existed. Thanks for the
tip Marzzz! Now all I have to do is persuade Emagic that I
legitamately need another USB key...

In Peak (stereo editing app) I use V-Box for stacking plugins.

Another solution not involving two copies of Logic is to purchase
Numerology.
http://www.five12.com/
it's a really cool ($85) modular sequencer/audiounits host.
I use it to host AU Instruments on a second Mac.
It works really well and the programmer is constantly online on the Yahoo
group
numerology , listening for suggestions.
Download a demo and have a go at it.
