Hi Everyone,
Just thought I would mention that Apple has posted the uprade (and the
regular
purchase options) for Logic Pro and Logic Express on the Apple Store (under
Third-
Party Software -> Audio. It has a 10-15 day shipping estimate. I just
ordere my
upgrade from Logic Platinum 6 for $199 (plus over night shipping of course
:-) Even
though I have all the Virtual Instruments, I am really looking forward to
getting my
hands on Space Designer :-) Happy shopping...
Cheers,
Scott

It's not yet on the Australian Apple site.
The only thing found by my search for "Logic" was the "Apple
PRO
Training Series: Logic 6". Just to get an idea of price comparisons I
checked the prices for it at both sites: AU$85.95, US$44.95. At that
rate the US199 Logic upgrade would be about AU$380.50, IF it ever
appears on the Oz Apple site.
Haven't tried to buy it from the U.S. site, so i don't know if Aussies
are allowed to. Anyone?

Note it says 10-15 business days shipping estimate, which is more like
2-3 weeks.
(Hopefully they'll hit this one. I've had orders for new hardware slip
and slip, but this bundle is hopefully much easier to put together than
17" Powerbooks.)

Hello,
It seems that one has to buy the physical box for this upgrade, then?
I was hoping that one could simply order the XSKey codes, a process
which would presumably be more efficient.
Also, does anyone know whether the upgrade will be available in the
Apple Stores, or will one only be able to buy Logic Pro there at the
full price?

Well the the suhject says that doesn't it ;-)..or maybe "upgrade"
and
"update" just get mixed here,,,but yes you can
order the 199 dollar update from Apple Store..that is if you happen to
live in USA..the rest of the world will have to wait...

I was at the Apple Store in Detroit last week and asked the guys if they
would be
carrying the Logic Line (Logic Pro Express and Logic Pro 6) and they said
that they
hadn't been told yet.
Given the attention that Apple has been giving this launch and given that it
is a mulit-
tiered product line (Garageband, Pro Express and Pro 6) it would only make
sense that
they would have it available in the stores.

I think he means the physical apple stores not apple.com. Btw I just ordered
the plat/gold 5/6 upgrade to pro 6 and it says expect to ship on 2/24

Sorry to have been unclear.
I was actually asking whether the update would be available in the
"real-world" Apple Stores like the SoHo store here in New York.
I'm just trying to estimate the fastest way to get one's hands on a
copy, whether to order on-line and have it shipped at an unknown time
or wait until the local Apple Store stocks the upgrade.

now all we need to know is what the 'competitive upgrade' is going to cost
so I we can
dump DP and move on over :>)

I would expect that Apple will sell the full version there, but not
sure about the upgrade for existing XSKey owners. I just called Apple
and asked, and the sales rep there didn't know.

I'm a DP user too. According to my Sweetwater rep, there will be no
competitive upgrade to Logic Pro. I plan on purchasing, but I'm waiting to
see if this is true. Anyone else think this is bogus?

I don't know whether its bogus or not. But you might consider making the
competitive upgrade right now. You can go to your local music software
dealer that sells emagic products..and they do it there. It cost me about
US$400 to do a competitive uprade to Logic. Then it will cost me another
$199 to upgrade to Pro. So you're looking at $600-$650 range to make the
switch from DP to Logic Pro....
Its not a cheap switch... But that is probably the wave of the future and
its still less than buying it outright for $999.

Every word I've heard about the Logic Pro update has said March would
be the soonest it would be available.
Is this Logic Pro Upgrade available now at the Apple stores? Can we
get a definitive yes?

good point...I wonder if the retailers are going to sell Logic Pro for less
than $999 list
tho.. :)

Ok, for sake of fairness....Competetive upgrade retails for $499. So $698
is retail price to cross grade to Logic Pro if you do what I did. However,
my retailer took $50 off the crossgrade price without any effort at all( I
didn't even have to ask for it..he just did)..I suppose I could have shopped
around and got for even less with a a little more effort. I've heard of
others paying less. Undoubtedly...to buy the full product it would be the
same...might be able to take up to 10% off the retail price somewhere.
That being said...the street price is probably either $600-$650 to
crossgrade/upgrade in two steps...or maybe about $900 to buy it full later.
Or perhaps Apple will come through with a cross grade price...but I can't
imagine it being much less than $650. More than likely, I'd bet it would
retail for $699, if at all, and you'd get it for $650 on the street. That's
-IF- they even offer it.
The main point is this.. If you wait..you might not even have the option to
crossgrade. But what it would cost now to do what I did...is about what it
would probably be if they were to offer a crossgrade later...so if you're
ready to plunge..I'd say you're better off doing what I did...get the
crossgrade ASAP...and then upgrade to Pro as soon as you're ready in a few
months.

The Logic Pro 6 Upgrade (for Logic Platinum or Logic Gold users that own
version 5 or
6), as well as the Full Version (for ANYONE), are both "available"
in the Apple Store (i.e.
ONLINE at www.apple.com) for $199 and $999, respectively.
They are shipping in 10 - 15 BUSINESS days, i.e. REALLY close to March....
We still do not know what will be available at PHYSICAL Apple stores... nor
do we
know when.
I personally assume that both versions will be available at the PHYSICAL
Apple stores
at about the same time that they will ship from Apple (i.e. if you order
online now at
www.apple.com).
Is that definitive enough? ;-)

The rep at the Apple (on-line) store which whom I spoke via telephone
said that the product would ship in about two weeks. Whether to
believe that statement or not is the question...

UPDATE (for those so "concerned" about when it will come):
I just checked my ORDER STATUS online at
<<http://store.apple.com>> and it says
that my order for the Logic Pro 6 Upgrade is due to be SHIPPED "On or
before
02/24/2004".....
I choose the two-day shipping, so that means I should have it "On or
before 02/26/
2004"....... ;-)
We'll see!!!!!
Chris M.
Apple said the same thing. The most recent upgrade was the
educational/competitive upgrade to 6.0 and then to Pro. You save about $200
by doing this. The competitive upgrade is $499 and then $200 for the upgrade
to Pro.

I wonder if the Pro upgrade comes with the Logic 6 manual that they
currently charge
extra for - that would be a very nice gesture!

My understanding is that you can upgrade immediately. However, I was
told by an Apple rep that the software would not be available until late
Feb early March (which probably means late March). The rep said that I
could upgrade over the phone with Apple, but suggested I check my local
dealer (he mentioned Guitar Center) since they would probably do the
upgrade for a bit less. Since I am coming from Logic Dinosaur 4.81, my
upgrade would be $699 at Apple, probably less at Guitar Center (although
I am doubtful GC will upgrade for less).

My Sweetwater rep told me that he expected that they would have one,
but that they don't have it yet. And that the Platinum competitive
upgrade is no longer available (and indeed it has disappeared from
their web site).
However, just 20 minutes ago I bought it ("in stock, ships next
day")
from Zzounds for $499. (I've seen it for $399 in the past, but that
was six months ago or more.)

You aren't referring to the Apple Pro Series book that they have out now,
are you??? A
$36 gesture? ;-)
Don't get me wrong, that would be nice, no doubt, but I seriously doubt that
will
happen.... and.............. I am hoping that this delay in the release of
the product is
because they now have a COMPLETE, book-style manual for Logic Pro 6,
including
COMPLETE documentation for ALL of the plug-ins, etc...... All in ONE SET....
And hopefully it has been professionally edited now, by native English
speakers as
well.
We will see!!!!

Thanks everyone. I did find the upgrade this time at the Apple Store.
My order is placed......now......the for unbearable waiting.
Ugh!

Doubtful... Apple products are generally price-fixed (notice how Apple
resellers compete with each other by the freebies they throw in, rather
than by discounting the price of the product itself).

I just had a look and can't find it. Looked under 3rd party, music and
audio, only lists the
full version.
What would the cost be from logic 4 to the current version? If
its $1,000 (full price), i will strongly consider making a
platform/sequencer change.

The upgrade code for Logic 4.x to Logic Audio Pro is $699.
