Subject: IRQ settings and Hard Drive questions?
Message #9658
Hi everyone, I have been checking my hard drives with echo utility and I have been getting strange results.I have two very similar hard drives and they are; 1- Maxtor 20.4GB, 7200RPM, 512KB Buffer, UDMA33, connected to IDE1 of motherboard. DMA option checked under device manager. S.M.A.R.T. turned on from BIOS. This drive has 3 partitions 1-C: for WIN 98 3GB 2-E: for Storage and Audio. 12GB 3-F: for WIN NT 4GB 2- Maxtor 20.2GB, 7200RPM, 2MB Buffer, UDMA66. Connected to Promise Ultra 66 Controller. This Drive has 1 Partition 1-D: 19GB Now from what i know drive 2 ( UDMA66)should perform 30 to 60 % better than the drive one (UDMA66 ) Echo utility gives me 37 tracks for Drive one's E: Partition and 29 tracks for Drive D: Am i doing something wrong or is this extra bandwith of UDMA66 is bogus? My second question is about IRQs. What is the best way to arrange them? How do you set it up so that a certain card does not have to share any IRQ with any other card? How do you set DS2416 as the bus master? I have 1 SBLIVE Value and 1 DS2416 and I am thinking about removing my UDMA66 controller card. I have no IRQ free according to my system info. Suggestions? Thank you Yavuz
