Not the answer you requested, however...
Cubase SX has an interesting feature called "True Tape". It's not
something
that I've used but the "dance" producers who use Cubase swear by
it. What
it does is record in 32-bit float and adds a "Magneto" type plugin
at the
input stage so the track is recorded with the effect in place. Should be
easy enough to do in Logic with a good quality tape saturation plugin. Do
you have Magneto by any chance? Worth a try.

Hey all!
I'm ready to upgrade to Panther on a Powerbook G4 and am wondering if there
is a consensus among those who already have, as to the best/safest
procedure.
Thanks!

clone your drive (with CCC perhaps)!!
(i needed to upgrade several utilities in order to get Panther
working - Drag Thing, Launch Bar, Quickeys - until these were
upgraded Panther would not start)

Gareth...Thanks! Did you have to reinstall logic or XSKey after the upgrade?
Any unusual issues...other cautions?

no, i did have to upgrade some plugins. i pretty much updated
everything actually!
this is my serious attempt to move to OSX for music tho' - until
Panther i was working in OS9 and dabbling in OSX. with Panther i

Absolutely, and carbon Copy Cloner is a great tool to do this with. It
will create a bootable clone of your current HD (on another partition
or volume, of course). Then use the Archive & Install option to install
Panther - this should preserve most if not all of your installed
applications (I did have to reinstall a few on my system that acted
weird after the upgrade, but nothing major).

Brian,
Thanks for the reply and insight. I did a straight upgrade and so far
everything is running well.
