Hi all
Has anyone got any advice about moving a hard drive from a G4 to a G5.
I have 2 internal drives installed in my G4 and use the 2nd for audio
and video. I want to move that one over to the G5 when it comes. I
installed it into the G4 with no problems - is there anything I need to
be aware of?
Thanks
Dave

AFAIK, you can only use S-ATA drives internally in a G5.
kind regards

Yes there is .
It wont Work.
you need to get an external Firewire or USB2.0 Enclosure and put it in
there.
The G5 uses SATA 150 Internal drives . they are NOT the same as the G4 ATA
drives
Not only that but G5 does NOT support ATA-SATA adapters.
you can ONLY use your existing drive in an external Drive housing.
Best regards

The G5 uses a different internal drive bus (called serial ATA).
It's incompatible with the older ATA bus that the G4's all
used.
You'll need to mount your old internal drive in some kind
of external Firewire enclosure (and perhaps USB2.0?).
It's probably less hassle to just buy new Firewire drives
(Firewire 800 would be much faster).

Aha!!!!!!
Thanks for that.
Looks like I'm selling the G4 with the audio drive still in it,

Ah but firewire enclosures are very cheap, I would recommend you get one as
they are
great for backing up stuff, you just set the old drive to master, pop it in
the enc;losure
and you have much cheaper firewire drive for backups than if you bought a
ready
made one

I was under the impression that the DVDR drive still utilises an ATA
100 bus and you could connect a drive to the second port if performance
is not crucial. In this scenario the drive would be good as a cheap
backup drive and for the initial transfer, but probably not suitable
for demanding audio/video.
Please correct me if this is wrong info.
