Here's what I think:
If you miced them badly they will sound bad without eq. If you eq them to
sound better after you mic them badly they will sound better, and if you
know what you're doing they might sound great. If you mic them right and use
as little eq as possible, they will sound the best they can sound. it takes
a lot of forethought and knowing what you want things to sound like in the
mix to do that, which requires actual thinking.

no one said it was the only valid alternative, DG. It is definitely
important though... right? If you get it really right you won't have eq much
and your song will sound better. That's the point.
I'm sure firium is awesome. I would love to get it. The point of this part
of the thread is to enlighten people that there is this thing called mic
placement that will help you not need so much eq. That is a much
misunderstood thing in the world of Logic newbies.
