It doesn't matter if your doing country, electronica or whatever R&B. Of coarse you EQ at some level. Subtracting at certain frequencies. And sweetens that nice air on her voice. And of coarse sometimes you go wild with that little freq. knob. But the better foundation, the better result. In your last example I'd be very aware of my mikes, knowing that somebody else was going to look me in my cards, and also would have to sort out my mess. (Or lack of, hopefully) Now, I'm aware that the thread was about different EQ's. And in that context I thought that a different view or advice would be appropriate. Maybe I was wrong. Don't know. Anyway of course are right that the closer you get things to the way they are supposed to be from the get go the better off you are going to be in the long run.
