Subject: [LAW] PC AV Error No Driver Selected
Message #153097
I've recently installed Logic 5.5.1 on my Dell Pentium 4. On this computer I plan on using only plug-in synths. When I start Logic, I get the error message "PC AV Error, No Driver Selected." I cannot set the "Cha" parameter to "Inst" in the Arrange Window in order to use the instrument software I own. When I double-click on the "Cha" parameter is reads "Off" with a check mark next to it. Also, when I try to set an audio track to audio instrument, it says "audio deactivated." If this helps in diagnosing my problem, I've checked the Emagic Infoweb for sound card compatibility and it is not listed there. It's an integrated SoundMax card. Thanks.

Subject: [GEN] Automation failure = song corruption?
Message #153098
This is a reply to #153097.
I am mid mix of a song that for some reason refuses to read automation. It is printing and visible on the arrange tracks and if I rewind or forward wind the values and volume do indeed change, but during playback nothing happens. My guess is that the song is somehow corrupted. If I load another song with automation it works fine. I have reloaded logic many times so it is a function of the song or a setting within it that I have somehow unwittingly changed. If someone has had a similar experience and found a solution I'd be most grateful if they could share it with me ... right now I am just about ready to throw the computer out of the studio and end my music career forever. This on LAW5.5.1 - WinXP Pro TIA Tony Perretta

This would obviously cause a problem if it were set to something else like "off" or "latch". Good Luck, hope this helps Andrew.

Thanks Andrew but what's happening is way weirder than that (tho I wish it wasn't). The normal "read" mode just ain't reading ... Tony Perretta

Open the Automation Folder (keycommand only -- gives an arrange-like window with automation sequences). Then use the event list on all sequences and visually inspect them for any weirdness: are there events at the start of the tracks that look like they don't beling there? In principle all you should see are Fader Events -- anything else doesn't belong there. If you find such events: delete them and try again. -- Hendrik Jan Veenstra h @ k n o w a r e . n l Omega Art: http://www.omega-art.com/

Thus the events were showing in the automation view in the arrange page, showing in the automation event editor, creating effective fader movements when rewinding and fastforwarding _BUT_ outside the automation object delimiters. Difficult to spot if you aren't looking in the right place but really obvious to me when the 'coin dropped'. So the tip here is to be sure to have all automation objects running thruout the song when inputting nodes using the mouse. I have created a new screenset that shows all automation views at the same time just in case. Tony Perretta

By 'automation object' you mean the sequences that show up in the Autoamtion Folder? Those should adapt their length automatically when you insert new nodes, be it with the mouse or with an external controller. -- Hendrik Jan Veenstra h @ k n o w a r e . n l Omega Art: http://www.omega-art.com/

I have never had to adjust the object lengths before so maybe it is indeed song corrupiton. In fact I have opened the Automation Folder maybe as few as 10 times since Logic 5 TBA has been available as I have done everything in the Automation Event Editor. In the end I found an easy and full proof workarund so apart from a few hours of major frustration no harm was done. Maybe this might help someone via an archive search one day. Tony Perretta
