Hi there,
I'm looking into buying Reaktor 4 and would like to know how well it
works as a plug-in. If you could send experiences on OS 9 and OS X as
well. That would be amazing.
Reaktor 3 never really worked as a plug-in and I don't want to spend
another couple of hundred Euros just to find out that it doesn't cut
it.
Thanks and cheers
Hans

i always felt that the great sounds that come out of Reaktor made up
for its err..... eccentricities
also Reaktor 4 is a free update from 3 i believe.
fwiw, i have Reaktor4 plugins running in OSX, but i have not tested
them extensively

I would be very careful before you purchase Reaktor 4. I've had major
problems trying to get it to work reliably, to the point where I don't
even have it installed at the moment. It's to buggy. I'd have a look
at NI forums and read some of the posts regarding Reaktor 4 and Logic
on a Mac

I use reaktor 4 exstensively with Logic 6.1 on OSX. I don't really have to
many problems with it, there are occasional crashes maybe one or two over an
8 hour period. However, a friend of mine has the same setup and has much
more frequent crashes, but still not enough to abandon it all together. The
one thing that definietly is a no go with reaktor 4 is automation. There are
a few very tidious workarounds for automating audio instruments, but you can
pretty much forget about automating reaktor when it is an insert. I also
find that the more instances of R4 you have open coupled with the amount of
heavy editing you may be doing on an instrument seems to increase the
likelihood of a crash. However, all that being said i am fairly happy with
the performance i get out of it. Hope this helps.
Andrew.
I use Reaktor 4 on os x and on my powerbook it works great... the g 5 my
friend has works good(w/reaktor).. and on my main system g4 1 ghz dual....
works stabil... most of the time (80%) . but the sounds are so killer I do
not care if it crashes... To me it is worth the money ...

I have been generally successful using Reaktor 4 and Logic 6 on a 1GHz
15" TiBook
with Jaguar. One thing that is annoying is that when you open a song in
Logic, each
Reaktor instance loads up with the default "new" ensemble. Each
instance of Kontakt
loads up it's instrument (or multi) perfectly, but Reaktor just doesn't
cooperate. Is
anybody out there getting Reaktor plug-in instances to load with the correct
ensembles? I feel like this used to work at some point in the past, but I
don't
remember which versions of what I was using.

I love Reaktor 4 for the sound and the variety. My sense is that it's much
more stable than v3, but that isn't saying so much because v3 was
completely impossible to use as a logic-plugi; too many crashes. I haven't
done a whole lot of saving and recalling with R4 as a plug in Logic, but so
far
I believe it's worked. I need to do more extensive testing on this to make a
definitive statement about it. I've had a few crashes and instabilities, but
nowhere near what v3 was like. One thing you definitely have to do is save
whatever state you're in as a snapshot and make sure to resave the
Ensemble with that snapshot included, because I think Logic looks for the *
snapshot* when recalling a song. as opposed to recalling the instrument in
its
last saved state regardless of whether it's been saved or not--which is what
you can do with most other plugs.
One other thing that annoys the hell out of me is that you can't resize the
AU
plugin window to accomodate some of the larger Reaktor ensembles, so you
have to work in a small window and scroll around, which is not the case when
using Reaktor as a standalone. Still, I'd have to say the fact that it's
usable at
all as a plug is a major improvement.
