This has been discussed endlessly before - I've done numerous tests and can
state that there is no difference in the basic sound of Logic vs ProTools,
either TDM or native. In fact, once you compensate for differences in pan
law implementation (Logic 0dB, PT 2.5dB, DP 3dB, Cubase/Nuendo/Samplitude -
user-selectable), you can even phase-cancel between programs.
However, once you start to use plug-ins, it's a different story. There are
quality plugs available for PT only that simply have no VST equivalent - e.g
McDSP, Bombfactory etc. I even prefer the basic PT EQ which I find sounds
smoother that Logic's equivalent. Also, I fail to see what all the hoopla
about Logic's new Channel EQ is about - still sounds harsh to my ears. Also
nowhere close to Wave's Rennaisance EQ - one of the few digital EQs I can
tolerate. I'm about to try the Sony Oxford EQ for my PT rig and will check
out the Firium as well. Logic's dynamics plugs are excellent though.

I have to take issue with that statement. You may be comparing single audio
files against each other. Where the differences become pronounced is on
mixdown, and this is very hard to test/prove etc. Pan law is totally
important as you've pointed out, but there's a whole lot more going on
behind the scenes.
I can state that generally mixes i've made/heard sounded better if mixed in
PT than in Logic.

Untrue. Between the UAD and Powercore, high-end VST plugins comparable (
arguably better) to TDM have been available for years. Waves, PSP, Firium
;-), all available on good ol' VST.

Agreed. The Sony will knock you out :-)
