Subject: logic vs DP4
Message #153044
Hi, currently pulling my hair out trying to make music with DP4, and thinking about getting logic. Has anyone used both? any response is greatly appreciated.

This is a reply to #153044.

While both programs have their strengths and weaknesses, I would briefly and humbly offer the following opinion: Logic is stronger in "creative flow" and MIDI, while DP has better audio editing. Logic's Arrange Window is clearer and easier to work within than DP's Tracks Overview, with the customizeable "block" approach to objects, including visible names and colours of individual objects. Logic is more customizeable, while DP is more elegant, but also more fixed. Logic is tighter in timing and better integrates virtual instruments and plug-ins (including the Holy Grail of automatic delay compensation). DP allows sample-level edits within the Tracks Overview window, while Logic only allows tick-level edits. DP's interface slows to a crawl with higher CPU useage, to the point of uselessness, while Logic fights the good fight and does not go quietly into that dark night and lights a candle rather than cursing the darkness and generally says "darn the torpedoes!" in a metaphorically mixed manner. There are many other differences, subtle and not so, but those are the ones which are most salient to my working methods. Best that you try out Logic for a bit. Also realize that you will need to customize Logic quite a bit to complement your working methods: this is Logic's strength and infuriating weakness (to Logic novices, at least, who would like to just get going immediately). Cheers, 3
